☀️🌿 Tamanuiterā is out to play! 🌿☀️

Sunshine on our faces, fresh air in our lungs and our outdoor environment buzzing with curiosity, creativity and connection. 🌱✨

Our tamariki have been soaking up every bit of the sunshine — climbing, creating, exploring, imagining and simply enjoying being together.

He rā ātaahua ki te ako, ki te tākaro, ki te tūhura!
A beautiful day to learn, play and explore. 💛☀️🌿

“Through play, children explore, discover, imagine and make sense of their world. Every little moment of play is a big moment of learning.” 🌿✨

Here are a few glimpses of the joy, curiosity and connection happening through play here at kindergarten. ❤️

Jumping into another day at Kindergarten!!!

We are so fortunate to have our beautiful grass area where we can set up large gross motor exploration for our tamariki. Today we learnt about balance, weight shifting, how to make our bodies go higher and of course how to take turns and wait patiently 🤣

The Government is currently reviewing how early childhood education is funded in New Zealand. As part of this process, Heretaunga Kindergartens is preparing a submission, and we'd love to hear directly from our whānau.

By completing our short survey, you'll help us advocate for the things that matter most, including high-quality kindergarten education, 100% qualified kaiako, and positive outcomes for tamariki, whānau and our communities.

Complete our 5-minute survey here: https://form.jotform.com/261867157805063

*Prize draw: One $50 supermarket voucher will be drawn for each kindergarten. Winners must be current or past whānau of Heretaunga Kindergartens, and eligibility will be confirmed by the relevant Kaiako Matua before the prize is awarded.

Nau mai, hoki mai e te whānau ki Harold Mayo Kindergarten! 💚

It has been wonderful welcoming our tamariki and whānau back for a new term. Our kindergarten is once again filled with laughter, curiosity, and happy faces as our tamariki return refreshed, reconnected, and ready for another exciting term of learning, exploration, and fun.

While our tamariki enjoyed a well-deserved break, our kaiako also embraced opportunities to learn and grow. Over the week we completed our First Aid revalidation, strengthened our professional knowledge through workshops in mathematics, oral language and literacy, and explored the new 2026 Teaching Standards.

We were also privileged to spend a day together as an association at Mangaroa Marae, where our learning centred on kotahitanga—coming together as one. Through kōrero, pepeha, mihi, tikanga and the rich history and whakapapa of the marae, we deepened our understanding of te ao Māori and reflected on how we can continue to weave these learnings authentically into our everyday practice.

A special thank you to Christine Petera for sharing the history and whakapapa of Mangaroa Marae, to Hine and Alisha for inspiring us through the pūrākau of Hinepūtehue and practical ways to bring this learning into our kindergarten, and to Herena for strengthening our understanding of tikanga, mihimihi and pepeha. We are incredibly grateful for the mātauranga, guidance and passion shared with us.

We are excited to bring these new learnings back to Harold Mayo Kindergarten, enriching our programme and creating meaningful experiences that nurture a strong sense of belonging, identity, culture and wellbeing for all of our tamariki.

E hara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini. 💚🌿
