🌱 A Wonderful Week of Learning at Mayfair Kindergarten

This week we enjoyed celebrating Tāne Mahuta Day, with whānau joining us to support our tamariki as they explored the important role of being kaitiaki – caring for and protecting our environment.

There was lots of wonderful hands-on learning taking place throughout the day. Tamariki enjoyed planting seeds, replanting in our main māra, helping with weeding and revisiting our composting learning.

Our tuakana also enjoyed visiting Mayfair School this week. This was a wonderful opportunity for them to become familiar with the school environment, participate in new experiences and build confidence as they prepare for their transition to school.

Tamariki have also begun practising for our Te Pepe Māui performance in November. There is lots of excitement as we begin preparing, and we look forward to sharing more information with whānau closer to the time.

This week at Mayfair Kindergarten we have been celebrating **Cook Islands Language Week**. 🇨🇰

Our tamariki have enjoyed learning about the Cook Islands flag, exploring what the colours, stars, and symbols represent and the significance they hold for the people of the Cook Islands. Through these experiences, we have been celebrating the language, culture, and identity of our Cook Islands community.

Today was especially exciting as our new flagpole was installed! The timing couldn't have been more perfect, allowing us to hold a special flag-raising ceremony. Together, we proudly raised the Cook Islands flag while listening to the Cook Islands national anthem, creating a meaningful moment of respect and celebration.

We are excited about the opportunities our new flagpole will bring. It will allow us to celebrate the many cultures within our kindergarten community by raising the flags of the countries represented by our whānau, supporting tamariki to develop a sense of belonging, identity, and appreciation for the diverse cultures that make our community so special.

Meitaki ma'ata to everyone who helped make this celebration possible! ❤️

It’s been a full and productive week at kindergarten as we prepare a calm, inviting environment for our tamariki to return on Monday. Our kaiako have been busy too — completing first aid refreshers, diving into an all‑day workshop on mathematics, oral language and literacy, and attending a wānanga where we learnt about Hinepūtehue, pepeha, and the beautiful Mangaroa Marae. We’re excited for the term ahead. Our kaupapa this term is Papatūānuku — grounding, nurturing, and reconnecting with the whenua.Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou. 🌿✨

Have Your Say on Early Childhood Education...

NZEI Te Riu Roa is inviting parents and whānau to take part in their 2026 Kōriporipo Parent and Whānau Survey.

The survey gathers the experiences and perspectives of families across Aotearoa and helps build a clearer picture of what high-quality early childhood education looks like, the challenges facing the sector, and the changes that would make the biggest difference for tamariki and whānau.

The information collected contributes to a national report that helps inform conversations about the future of early childhood education in New Zealand.

If you'd like to share your thoughts and experiences, we encourage you to take part.

This week our tamariki enjoyed a wonderful visit to Matahiwi Marae as part of our annual Matariki excursion.

The day was filled with meaningful learning as tamariki experienced waiata and kōrero, learned about the story of Māui, and strengthened their sense of identity and belonging while connecting with their culture, whānau, and wider community.
The bus ride was definitely a favourite and brought plenty of smiles and excitement! 🚌
A heartfelt thank you to the whānau who joined us today and to Matahiwi Marae for your warm manaakitanga and for sharing this special experience with our tamariki. We are grateful for the opportunity to come together to celebrate Matariki through learning, connection, and community.
