🐝 Learning Comes Alive at Sparrows Early Learning 🌿
Recently we welcomed Sarah C’s Bees into our centre, and our tamariki enjoyed a hands-on, carefully designed bee education session led by scientist, beekeeper, and educator Sarah Cross.
Her visit was more than “just a bee talk” — it was a rich, real-world learning experience that supported:
🌱 Scientific thinking — observing, investigating, asking questions
🌼 Environmental awareness — understanding kaitiakitanga and the role of bees
🗣️ Communication — sharing ideas, listening, building new vocabulary
🤝 Contribution & confidence — trying new tools, working together
🌏 Connection to nature — exploring how bees help Papatūānuku thrive
At Sparrows, we are intentional about creating learning that is meaningful, hands-on, and aligned with Te Whāriki. Experiences like this help tamariki grow curiosity, independence, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
If you’re searching for a centre where:
✨ Children learn through real experiences
✨ Nature and inquiry are valued
✨ Kaiako truly know, support, and extend each child
✨ Whānau feel connected and welcomed
…then Sparrows might be the perfect fit for your whānau.
We’d love to show you around — just message us anytime!

🌿 A Special Sparrows Ritual 🌿
One of our most treasured rituals here at Sparrows is our graduation ceremony. It’s a time where we invite whānau into our space to pause, reflect, and celebrate the learning, growth, and development of their tamaiti before they head off on their next big adventure.
Our graduates proudly wear our graduation korowai and cap, and after a slideshow capturing their journey with us (and yes… usually a few tears 🥹), they are presented with their graduation certificate, their taonga – their learning portfolio – and a pukapuka lovingly signed by all of their kaiako.
As a true mixed-age centre, all tamariki share in this special moment, celebrating together and sending their friend off with aroha as they begin their next journey.
This week we farewell a number of our 5-year-olds, starting with none other than Kau’i Pop! 💫
We will miss you so much, our friend, but we know you will absolutely nail it at kura.
Once a Sparrow, always a Sparrow 🤍🐦

Welcome back to 2026 🌿
A new year, new routines, and lots of learning ahead!
We currently have some availability at our centre and are always happy to welcome new whānau. We’re a small, true mixed-age centre — one of only a handful in Hamilton — offering a nurturing, family-style environment for our tamariki.
We’ve also teamed up with Coffee Culture ☕
New enrolments receive a voucher so you can enjoy a snack or coffee while your tamariki settles in ❤️
Get in touch if you’d like to chat or come for a visit.

We recently partnered with the amazing team at Telling Your Stories to create our very own taonga — a special pukapuka that celebrates our local curriculum and the people, places, and things that make it unique.
This beautiful resource will support our tamariki to build a deeper understanding of the world around them, helping them connect with their community, environment, and culture in meaningful ways.

Our tamariki have been interested in emergency vehicles lately. Recently we were lucky enough to have a special visit from our local firefighters! The tamariki loved exploring the firetruck and learning about how firefighters help keep everyone safe.
