Te Whare Kaakano Rugby League

Thank you to Strauss, Cairo, Lee and Tys for coming into school yesterday to talk to our young men and share your knowledge about training, nutrition, and options for league.

A big thank you to Braemar Hospital for hosting Jordan Martin for his Gateway work placement, which he did through the July holidays. Jordan is heading off to study nursing next year, and he really wanted the opportunity to gain some experience and an understanding of the health sector. His dream is to be a theatre nurse, and here is what one of the team shared with us about having Jordan for the week.

“I am a Theatre Nurse at Braemar Hospital and bumped into Jordan in the tea room and we got chatting. What an incredible young man! He is well mannered, genuine and very mature. An absolute delight in fact! I managed to arrange for him to be able to observe an operation, which would have given him a great insight into becoming a theatre nurse. With his positive attitude and warm approach, Jordan will make an incredible nurse.”

We are also delighted to share that Jordan has also volunteered his time to the Braemar Charitable Trust, Community Surgery Programme. Well done on making such a great impression with not only the staff, but also the patients – we are so proud of you Jordan!

Congratulations to our Senior Prem Basketball team and their coaching staff for going undefeated in their division and taking the win in a tough final against worthy opponents Te Aroha College.

Our ShowQuest performance has been judged as part of the National finals recently and we are proud to announce the following recognitions for St John's College:

A special congratulations to Oliver Johnson for receiving the Whetū Rangatahi (Star of the Show) award!

Congratulations to our 'Johnnies boys' who competed in the annual Chanel Shield this year hosting the five Catholic Secondary Colleges in our Diocese, at Sacred Heart Girls College. Once again we were victorious in winning the 'Chanel Shield' for the second year in a row. We are very proud of all of our young men who represented us so well!

Today, some of our students had the opportunity to share their musical talents with the rest of the school during assembly. Performances included the Drum Corps, Jazz Band, Barbershop Group, and even a special guest appearance from our friends at Sacred Heart Girls' College, Hamilton.

We are always proud of our boys for sharing their talents and representing the college so well. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making today's assembly such a success!

Congratulations to our Jazz Combo, Sancto Giovanni Septet who performed at the Auckland Jazz Festival in the weekend.
Well done to all involved and a special thank you to Mr Stephen Morton-Jones for directing the group.

Our Media Team were fortunate enough to visit the TVNZ 1 studio in Auckland today. It was an opportunity to learn what goes on behind the scenes and the technology involved. We appreciate TVNZ for sharing their knowledge and resources with us.
