More success for our Barbershop men!
Our SJC 'Flight Crew' were announced Lower Voices Chorus winners at Young Singers in Harmony in Wellington. This is the first year SJC has entered a Barbershop Chorus and we are elated with this National success and recognition.

Huge thank you Mr Barr for leading the group so superbly and to Mrs McHugh, Mrs Hale and Mrs Tankersley for their continuous support and hard work. Massive thank you to all students, whanau and staff for their ongoing support of the SJC Music Department.

We had a great day yesterday at the Barbershop National Championships in Wellington with two St John's Quartets competing in the quartet competition.

Our top quartet "IV Fluid" (Yeonjoon Kim, Larin Gabriel Caingal, John Alcantara, Joshua Kabiling) won the Lower Voices (out of 16 Lower Voice quartets) and with top points overall won Overall Champion Quartet! An amazing achievement for these boys.

Yeonjoon also competed in two Mixed Voices Quartets, and came 2nd in that section with "Middle Ground" (combining with girls from SHGC) and 1st with "Indecisive" (combining with girls from SHGC and HGHS). Congratulations!

A massive thank you to the Claas Harvest Centre, who have hosted Leighton Barnett for his Gateway placement this year. Leighton has made such a great impression, they have decided to offer him a full time position, which he is incredibly excited about. The feedback we received has also been fantastic.

"Leighton is a great fit for our team, and is performing exceptionally well through his Gateway placement. He is friendly, punctual, reliable, and highly motivated, and he consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. We are so impressed by Leighton’s attitude, and we know he will be an asset to our team.”

Following on from winning the Waikato Readers Cup last term, our Year 9 team travelled to Dilworth School in Auckland to compete in the SLANZA National Readers Cup this week.

After reading a further six books each this term, Cooper, Hadley, Hugo and Rocco put their knowledge to the test against teams representing 13 other regions from across New Zealand. As the only boys’ school competing, the team represented St John’s College with pride and worked exceptionally well together throughout the competition.

While they didn’t place, the boys can be very proud of the commitment, teamwork and preparation they put into the competition. Well done, boys!

A huge thank you to Sweet Pea Parties Ltd for sponsoring the team and purchasing all six books for each of the four boys. Your support made a real difference and was greatly appreciated!

Last week Mass was conducted bilingually here at St Johns, Paanui, Karakia, Waiata and Karanga all made for a special occasion. The Bishop said he thinks the last time Maaori Miha was held was when he was at school.

We had six students take part in our Aviation Programme through Waikato Aviation last term, and we are incredibly proud to share that all six students successfully completed the programme!

It has been fantastic to see their commitment, enthusiasm and passion for the aviation industry. Our students also gained valuable industry knowledge and practical experience, while developing their confidence and understanding of the aviation sector. A huge congratulations to all six students on this fantastic achievement, and a special thank you to the team at Waikato Aviation for providing our students with such a valuable opportunity to explore their passion, and take another step towards their future careers in aviation.
