🌟 Rugby League-NRLW Curtain Raiser!

🏉 This year we have had a dedicated group of junior and senior Rugby League players training, and competing in the Kaokaoroa Wahine Toa Cup.

Over the weekend we were so proud to see the team running out under the floodlights of FMG Stadium Waikato to play in the curtain raiser of the NRLW game this weekend vs Manurewa High School.

🩰 Dance NZ Made 2026 💃🏻
Over the weekend, dancers from Hamilton Girls’ High School attended Dance NZ Made, an interschool dance competition where students compete at a regional level, and have the chance to qualify for Nationals.

HGHS dancers represented the school with pride and came away with some excellent results!

⭐️ Golden Ticket: Mercy La’a was selected during the workshops by the tutors and was awarded a Golden Ticket to attend the Gold Awards in 2027. They will battle their way through elimination rounds dancing eight pieces of choreography they have previously learnt. The final dancers remaining have the chance to win $1000 towards their dance training.

💫 New Zealand School of Dance Award: Mercy La’a, Luisa Rauraa, Jamie-Lee Paikea

Only five students were selected at the competition to receive this award and Hamilton Girls’ took three of those! The judges selected dancers throughout the competition to receive this award which invites them to an exclusive NZSD Experience day at Te Whaea in Wellington. They have the opportunity to see what full time dance is like at the New Zealand School of Dance. What an incredible opportunity for these dancers!

🌟👏🏼 Each and every dancer left everything on the stage and performed like true professionals. We are so proud of you all! Next stop, NATIONALS! 🙌🏼

💫 Junior Debating: Semi Finals! Over the past three terms we have had a range of teams compete in the Waikato Schools Junior Debating Competition.

Congratulations to Team Four (pictured here) who made it all the way to the semi-finals! While they did not take out the competition, they had a brilliant season and made Hamilton Girls’ High School proud with their efforts, and in their final debate of the season. Ka mau te wehi! 🙌🏼

💫 A big congratulations to the incredible international students involved in the first inaugural International Student Quiz! The evening was held at Hamilton Boys’ High School on the 6th August and was a fun event for all!

🙌🏼 There were teams from Hamilton Girls’ and Boys’ High Schools, St Paul’s Collegiate, Sacred Heart Girls’ College, Te Aroha College and St Peter’s School, all competing to be the top international student team.

🌎 The event included a range of entertaining quiz rounds including: world knowledge, visual challenges, and general trivia, with plenty of opportunities for laughs along the way that made the evening certainly memorable.

✨ We are so proud of Brenna and Minka, and we wish them well as they prepare to showcase their designs at the Walk the Line youth fashion show later in August! Ka mau te wehi!

Waikato teens set for New Zealand Fashion Week runway Minka Parker and Brenna Easthope-Gay are among 78 finalists taking part in Walk The Line.

🏊🏼‍♀️ Congratulations to Jessica Richardson, Poppy van Geneijgen, Elieta Tukia, Stephanie Olsen, Onithi Kudaudage, and Charlie Munkenbeck who competed representing HGHS at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships recently!

🙌🏼 The team also competed strongly in the relay events, with Jessica and Elieta finishing an impressive 18th out of 62 teams in the 2 × 50m Open Women’s Freestyle Relay.

👏🏼 Jessica, Onithi, Poppy, and Elieta also combined to place 15th in the 4 × 50m 16 & Over Women’s Individual Medley Relay.

✨ Congratulations to Eva Rangiawha on an exceptional series of performances across three major diving competitions held throughout July, representing Hamilton Girls’ High School with pride!

💫 Diving New Zealand Secondary and Intermediate Championships:

🥇 1st place in the Synchronised Diving event
🏆 Junior Secondary School Girls Platform Champion
🥉 3rd in the Secondary School Girls Springboard
placed 3rd overall for Hamilton Girls’ High School

💫 Diving New Zealand National Championships, also held in Christchurch, competing against some of the country’s best divers. Her results included:

🥈 2nd – 3m Age/Elite A/B Synchronised Diving
🥉 3rd – 3m Springboard Age Group A/B Girls
4th – 1m Springboard Age Group A/B Girls
4th – Platform Age Group A/B Girls

💫 Eva also competed at the Australian School Games in Melbourne. This prestigious event brings together the top school-aged divers from across Australia and New Zealand, with only the highest-ranked athletes from each state or territory selected to compete. The competition features many athletes who are part of elite high-performance programmes and are on pathways towards future international and Olympic representation.

Despite not yet being part of an elite programme herself, Eva rose to the challenge and delivered outstanding performances against some of the region’s best young divers. Her results included:

✨ 8th of 15 – 13–14 Years Girls Platform
✨ 9th of 16 – 14 Years Girls Springboard

🙌🏼 These fantastic achievements are a testament to Eva’s dedication, perseverance, and commitment to her sport. We are incredibly proud of Eva and congratulate her on an outstanding month of competition. 👏🏼

✨Tainui Regional Ngā Manu Kōrero Competition ✨
Last Friday, three of our Whānau Māori students represented Hamilton Girls’ High School with pride and mana at the Tainui Regional Ngā Manu Kōrero competition.

✨ Ngā Manu Kōrero is a highly competitive Māori secondary school speech competition that challenges students to speak with confidence, clarity and purpose in either te reo Māori or English.

✨ Year 10 student Kiely Heke competed in Junior Te Reo Māori, Year 9 student Ahumai Turangi-Joseph represented us in Junior English, and Year 12 student Pier Uruamo competed in Senior English.

✨ Each student worked incredibly hard in the lead-up to the competition, committing significant time and effort to preparing, practising and refining their speeches. All three spoke with confidence and represented our kura exceptionally well. We are incredibly proud of their courage, dedication and the mana they carried throughout the day.
