First-year Wintec Communication student Rael, who has a passion for arts reporting, has already had her first music review published in the Waikato Herald, via nzherald.co.nz.
Rael went along to the sold-out Te Wehi show on the opening night of his I'm Home tour last week at the BNZ Theatre.
Amazing mahi, Rael. What an incredible achievement so early in your studies.
We can't wait to see where your journalism journey takes you next!

A little while ago Te Kawau Toi, Music and Performing Arts ākonga and alumni were in the studio with NZ music icon HOLLIE SMITH, recording backing vocals for her new album (keep an eye out for its release - it's a stunner of an album!)
We're so proud of our Wintec ākonga: (Backing Vocals) Gracian Verissimo, Baxter Ward and Mia Downing, and Seth Austin (Assistant Engineer) and Ty Kārewa Johnson (Studio Assistant). It was lovely to welcome back our alumni (Backing Vocals) Taylor Puketoa Green, Jess Ruck-Nu'u, Emma Thornton and Jaimee Cruse (Assistant Engineer) as well.
The session was engineered by Programme Coordinator for the Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts (Music) Megan Rogerson-Berry, and our legend of a technician Brad Morgan set up all of our gear for the session.
Singer-songwriter Nikau Grace was also welcomed for the session, as were New Zealand Barbershop Chorus champions Manu Mātātahi. We love having opportunities like this for our ākonga to learn and grow and perform at an industry standard. Ka pai!
Aroha and gratitude to Hollie for this amazing opportunity 🙏 🫶.

This valuable industry experience enhanced their understanding of commercial printing processes and professional practices within the print and design industry.
A warm thank you to the teams at Vivid Images, and Pacesetter for hosting us and sharing their expertise with our design students.
Special thanks also to Luke McConnell for organising these engaging learning sessions.
