Kia ora e te whānau! Nau mai ki te Wiki o te Reo Māori!

At Playcentre we honour our indigenous language, te reo Māori, as a unique taonga to be treasured by all New Zealanders.

Each day of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2026 has a theme highlighting the different ways te reo Māori belongs in our everyday lives - at home and in our communities.

We’ll be sharing daily wero (challenges) to help you embrace te reo in your Playcentres and in your whare! Karawhiua!

Mane | Monday’s theme is Te Reo i te Wāhi Tangata | In Public Spaces.

We challenge you to learn a new greeting or learn te Reo mō te Rori (language for the road) - this is a great one for tamariki who are into vehicles!

At Playcentre, the values of Matariki mā Puanga are woven together like Te Whāriki. This season, we're sharing a bit more about what each value means to us. First up is Tuakiritanga - Identity and Belonging.

Matariki Herenga Waka encourages inclusion, multiculturalism, diversity, and the sharing of cultural practices. Our identities come from the people around us and how we care for them.

At Playcentre this means we:
- Affirm Māori as tangata whenua.
- Value each child and the identity and culture of each whānau.
- Reflect cultural diversity in everyday practice.
- Build a community where everyone belongs.
- Learn how other cultures in our centres celebrate.
