Our Wintec Wāhine in Trades and Engineering event is back for 2026! 👷‍♀️

New Zealand needs more people with the skills to build, innovate, and keep our essential industries moving, and wāhine are helping shape the future of these sectors 💡

We're bringing together another inspiring panel of wāhine working across the trades and engineering sector to share their career journeys with the next generation of tradies and engineers.

Nearly half of New Zealand's workforce is female, yet women make up just 3% of on-the-tools tradies and 14% of the engineering workforce.

That's not a challenge, it's an opportunity. These industries are calling for more skilled professionals, and there has never been a better time for more wāhine to explore careers in trades and engineering 🙌

Even small increases in participation could mean thousands more people contributing to New Zealand's growing demand for housing, infrastructure, essential services, and more.

At Wintec, we're proud to work alongside industry and our region to grow the next generation of professionals and create pathways into rewarding, in-demand careers 💛

Over the coming weeks, we'll introduce each of our incredible panellists, sharing part of their stories, experiences, and advice for anyone considering a future in the industry.

A special shout-out to Nikki Strange, a graduate and top student in the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering. Induction week highlights from our Pre-Trade Carpentry ākonga 👷‍♂️🔨

A great example of the hands-on learning happening at our Centre for Trades and Engineering. Kaiako Gerry put a huge amount of effort into making the popsicle stick bridge activity come to life — and it absolutely paid off!

The activity was a fantastic way to engage learners, build teamwork, and bring students together from day one.
