Day 2 of Our School Holiday Programme: Nurse Day!

Today in our preschool room was all about caring, helping, and learning about the wonderful work nurses do! As part of our Mini Job Fair: My Dream Career Day, we were delighted to welcome one of our very own whānau members, Nurse Manju, as our special guest speaker.

Nurse Manju shared with our tamariki what it is like to be a nurse, the important ways nurses care for people, and some of the tools they use every day. The children were especially excited to get some hands-on experience, exploring and trying out different nursing equipment while Nurse Manju explained how each item is used.

A huge thank you to Nurse Manju for generously sharing her time, knowledge, and experiences with us. We loved having one of our whānau help inspire our tamariki to dream about who they might become one day. 💛🐝🩺✨

DAY 1 of our School Holiday Programme!

Our Mini Job Fair Has Officially Begun. What a fantastic way to kick off our preschool holiday fun! Our little learners brought their dreams to life as they dressed up and proudly took part in our Dream Career Parade. From doctors and teachers to chefs, firefighters, builders and so much more, our children confidently showcased the careers they dream of becoming one day.

Our little astronauts are all set for our upcoming Space Adventure Holiday Programme!

Over the next fortnight, we will be building rocket ships out of recycled boxes, exploring moon sand, and going on space missions!

🌿 Te Ao Māori Week in the Babies’ Room 🌿

What a beautiful week of learning and exploration! Our pēpi enjoyed experiencing Te Ao Māori through a range of hands-on activities — exploring river and sea creatures in the sandpit, reading Māori books, learning colours in Te Reo Māori and using sign language.

We connected with Papatūānuku by planting seeds, explored Māori resources such as puzzles, poi and rākau, enjoyed baking with our whānau, and discovered the textures and beauty of harakeke through weaving. 💚

A special week filled with play, culture, connection, whānau and discovery! 🌿✨

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2026 – Kōwhai Rūma

He wiki whakahirahira tēnei i Kōwhai Rūma as we celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2026 through kōrero, waiata, pūrākau, nature, and kai!

Throughout the week, our tamariki had the opportunity to learn and use te reo Māori in meaningful and fun ways, exploring:

Kōrero Māori – sharing stories, learning new kupu, and building confidence in speaking te reo Māori. We also learnt about the history of Te Awa o Waikato (Waikato River) and listened to some wonderful pūrākau and legends.

Te Taiao me Te Wai – learning about our natural environment and the importance of caring for te taiao and te wai.

Oro – exploring sounds, listening, repeating, and enjoying the sounds of te reo Māori.

Whakapapa me Ngā Whetū – discovering connections to our ancestors and learning about ngā whetū, the stars and night sky.

Kai Kūmara Mash Tasting – finishing the week with a fun and tasty experience as we explored kūmara and enjoyed tasting our kai together!

It has been a beautiful week of ako, connection, kōrero and celebration. Most importantly, our tamariki have had the chance to see that te reo Māori is a living language that belongs in our everyday lives.

This week in the Puawai Room, we have been so excited to celebrate Māori Language Week with our tamariki! Our toddlers enjoyed lots of fun, hands-on experiences involving nature, water, sensory play, and exploring the world around them. We introduced simple te reo Māori words and phrases throughout our everyday activities, encouraging tamariki to listen, repeat, and use the language in meaningful ways. These experiences supported their curiosity, communication, confidence, social skills, and connection to te ao Māori and the natural environment. It has been wonderful to see the tamariki engaged, happy, and eager to explore and learn together!

🌱🌸 He wā whakatō – A time for planting! 🌸🌱

Our tamariki in the Babies Room have been busy preparing our garden for spring! 🪴💦 Using shovels to dig and pour water to soften and prepare the soil, the tamariki enjoyed getting hands-on and helping to get our garden ready for planting beautiful flowers. 🌼🌷

This experience also connects beautifully with Te Reo Māori Week, giving our tamariki opportunities to learn and use simple kupu Māori as we explore the natural world together.

🌱 Kupu hou (new words):
🪴 Kākano – seed
🌸 Puāwai – flower
💧 Wai – water
🌿 Rākau – plant/tree
🌎 Whenua – land

Through gardening, our tamariki are developing their fine and gross motor skills, confidence, curiosity, and a sense of manaakitanga (care and respect) for our environment. 💚
