It is heartwarming 💕
to receive gifts from my beautiful clients for the time we spent together and things we learn on the way.

This particular family was unique, fabulous, and wise in so many ways. My role was to support them through the transition into a family of three 💗 Their dream came true after many years of anticipation and preparation.

Absolute privilege and honour every time!

Va**na...

🤩 things we think we know
🤓 things we were told and just believed it's true
🧐 things we wanted to ask about but never did
🤨 things we wish someone told us earlier

I highly recommend this seminar for anyone who ever wanted to ask questions about their va**na, recovery from a traumatic experience, or how to prepare your va**na for pregnancy and birth!

The two women running the seminar, Alina from Koru Movement - Feldenkrais Method in Hamilton NZ - Feldenkrais Method in Hamilton NZ and Clare from https://www.claireecclestonmidwife.com/ are regarded professionals in their fields.

This seminar is a worthwhile investment in your health and well-being!

Let’s get uncomfortable and talk about tight va**nas. If you ask Google about the subject, these are only a few titles you’ll find. It looks like the whole world is on a mission to make your va**na better aka tighter. Like really?

🤦‍♀️ We are ok not talking about va**nas post-childbirth
🤦‍♀️ We are ok staying silent about episiotomies and incontinence
🤦‍♀️ We are ok to ignore the stats about pelvic organ prolapse in menopause.
🤯 But the society we live in is ok to keep pouring on us the BS about tight va**nas and their meaning for pleasure.

Let’s stop referring to va**nas based on someone’s cultural and societal ideas.
The fact is that the va**nas are different and their size and shape can change and has nothing to do with sexual pleasure or your worth as a partner. There is actually a medical term for a va**na that’s too tight: it’s called vaginismus and it’s a pain. Literally.

👉 Or***ms don’t depend on how tight your va**na is. They depend on your pelvic floor muscles and how functional they are (not how strong or tight!). They depend on lubrication and your va**na’s ability to lengthen when you are aroused.

👉 The tearing and loss of elasticity (that I prefer much to “looseness”) you might be experiencing after childbirth are only normal and temporary if proper steps are taken to support the healing of your va**na and pelvic floor.

❌ And no it’s not about doing countless Kegels on traffic lights.

I and Claire Eccleston Midwife are running Move-Heal-Reconnect: Postpartum Healing Workshop in Hamilton at River Ridge East Birth Centre in June, and it will be a safe space to be a va**na rebel and talk about the facts, not the myths.

All the details and the link to join will be 👇👇👇 - and if you've been on the fence, the time is now (ask me about the special rate available till the end of this week)

Best colour of light for sleep!

Recent research suggests that red and yellow-tinted light can have a beneficial effect on children's sleep by promoting relaxation and calmness.

Specifically, red light has been found to stimulate the production of melatonin, a hormone that plays a key role in regulating sleep-wake cycles and can help children fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Similarly, yellow light has been shown to have a calming effect, reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation.

These tinted lights may be particularly helpful for children who struggle with falling asleep or staying asleep, as they create a soothing atmosphere that can facilitate relaxation.

For toddlers and preschool-aged children, the use of training clocks with red and yellow tinted lights may be the optimal strategy for promoting healthy sleep habits. These clocks typically feature a red light that activates at bedtime, signaling to children that it is time to wind down and prepare for sleep. In the morning, the clock's yellow light activates, indicating that it is time to awaken. By incorporating these colors into their sleep routine, children can learn to associate them with sleep and wake times, which may facilitate the development of positive sleep habits. Furthermore, the use of these clocks can empower children to take control of their sleep routine, which may have long-term benefits for their overall health and well-being.

As always, our team is here to support you and answer any questions you may have about creating a healthy sleep environment for your child.

Does your child grind their teeth?
Snoring?
Unusual sleeping position?
Sweeting?

My second child experienced all of the above in her preschool years. She certainly had disordered breathing patterns, mild sleep apnea, and incorrect tongue posture.

I wish I knew what I know now. That's why I so happily share this information so mums and dads could be exposed to it, learn from it, and monitor their children's growth.

The younger your child is, the easier and simpler the solutions are! Go ahead and have a read to educate yourself and be the best advocate for your child!

Here are some of the nighttime symptoms that can be seen in a child with sleep disordered breathing.

🧸Loud snoring

🧸Heavy breathing

🧸Pauses in breathing

🧸Snorts

🧸Gasps

🧸Increased effort to breathe

🧸Restless sleep

🧸Sweating

🧸Strange sleeping positions

🧸Bruxism

🧸Parasomnia

🧸Bedwetting

Does any of this resonate with you about your child? Just accepting it is a tough pill to swallow. Have your child assessed by an orofacial myofunctional therapist to learn more about untreated sleep disorders. Here at Impact Myofunctional Therapy we work 100% virtually so we can help! Did you know?!

The synchronising patterns are observed in utero and continue to develop after birth. Fetuses and newborn infants can respond to the external rhythm by synchronising their sucking, movement, breathing, heart rate and even crying.

Infants will respond to their mother’s heart rate and breathing by matching their heart rate and breathing patterns during their sleep if they share the same sleeping space. It is also true if an infant shares the bedroom with another significant adult: grandmother, father, nanny, or an older sibling.

The synchronising is especially beneficial in the first six months of life as the newborn’s nervous system matures and learns to regulate breathing during sleep times effectively. The World Health Organisation recommends sharing the sleeping space for the first six months of the child’s life to promote healthy breathing patterns and heart rates in sleeping infants.

Let me start off by saying I had a lot of fun with an awesome bunch of young parents talking all things sleep in the first three months.

We were fortunate to have a beautiful 11 week old baby and her brave and proud parents (you know who you are) sharing their baby's sleep journey with us.

Sleep safety is always a hot topic and needs time and consideration to absorb and feel comfortable about it. In the information overload environment I feel young parents appreciate the personal support and face to face communication the most 😍

This talk was a complimentary to pregnancy courses! Thank you, Alina, for sharing your wonderful clients 😊
