Kia ora Greymouth community,

The Children’s House Greymouth is currently temporarily closed following significant flood damage to our centre at the end of July.

Since then, we have been working tirelessly to find a suitable building that would allow us to temporarily relocate and continue providing care and education for our tamariki. Unfortunately, despite exploring many options, including churches, schools and other community spaces, we have not yet been able to secure a suitable location.

We are grateful for the support of the Greymouth District Council as we continue searching for a solution.

We currently have 55 families affected by our closure. Many of our whānau are now running out of annual leave, family support and alternative childcare options, making the need for a temporary location increasingly urgent.

We are reaching out to our wider Greymouth community for help.

If you know of a building or space in the Greymouth area that may be suitable for us to temporarily operate an Early Childhood Education centre from, we would really appreciate hearing from you.

Even if you’re unsure whether a space would meet the requirements, please get in touch, we are happy to explore any potential options.

Please contact Jardene on 027 668 6221

We would also really appreciate our community sharing this post so we can reach as many people as possible.

Thank you Greymouth, for supporting our tamariki, whānau and The Children’s House community. 💚

🌍 Geography Learning Month 🌍

Our tamariki have been busy exploring landscapes and the world around us through hands on, sensory rich experiences. Using different textures and materials such as sand, cotton wool, paper and paint, the children created their own landscape masterpieces while learning about the natural environment.

These creative experiences encourage curiosity, imagination, fine motor development and meaningful conversations about the earth, weather, land and the environments we see every day. ✨

At Kaiata Kids, we value learning through exploration, creativity and play, allowing tamariki to discover the world in ways that are engaging, meaningful and fun. 💚

☁️ Learning Month of May: Geography ☁️

Our preschool tamariki have been busy exploring the skies above us as part of our Geography learning focus this month. 🌏✨

Using cloud identification charts, tamariki observed the different cloud formations floating above Kaiata Kids and discussed what they could see in the sky. This hands-on experience encouraged curiosity, observation, communication, and scientific thinking as children connected with the natural world around them.

Through intentional teaching and play-based learning, tamariki are developing:
☁️ Observation and investigation skills
☁️ Scientific and geographical language
☁️ Curiosity about the environment
☁️ Confidence to question, explore, and discover

At Kaiata Kids Greymouth, we value learning experiences that connect children to their local environment and inspire a lifelong love of learning. 💚

“Look closely at nature. Every cloud tells a story.” ☀️
