🟠 WEATHER UPDATE – ORANGE HEAVY RAIN WARNING | THURSDAY 27 AUGUST

There is an Orange Heavy Rain Warning in place for tomorrow across much of the West Coast.

Based on the current forecast, programmes will be running tomorrow, with alternative plans in place where required for off-campus activities.

The West Coast Trades Academy programmes will also be running as planned. However, students and whānau should follow their school’s direction regarding transport arrangements. Please check your school’s website and page for the most up-to-date information and any further changes.

If you are travelling in the morning, please take extra care, allow additional time, and drive to the conditions.

We will provide a further update by 8:30am tomorrow morning to confirm arrangements based on the latest official advise.

Our West Coast Trades Academy students were busy in the kitchen on Friday with a Top Chef-style Pasta Challenge, while also getting ready for Cupcake Day! 🧁

DAFFODIL DAY FUNDRAISER – CUPCAKES & COFFEE! 🧁☕

Our West Coast Trades Academy students are teaming up again. This time, the Cookery and Café Skills students are raising funds for the annual Cancer Society Daffodil Day.

Our Cookery students are baking lemon cupcakes for the fundraiser, while our Café Skills students have been organising pre-orders and will serve tea or coffee on collection day.

Lemon Cupcakes – $4 each
Office Shout – Cupcake + Espresso Coffee – $7.50

PLEASE ENSURE YOU PRE-ORDER – CUPCAKES ARE LIMITED!
There will be NO on-the-day sales this year, so get your order in early to avoid missing out!

🚣‍♀️🌦️ Another fantastic week of Client Days! 🌦️🚣‍♂️

We captured some great photos this week of Westland High School students embracing the challenge of learning to kayak!

Starting in the pool before progressing to flat water and then moving water, Westland High School students experienced a variety of environments and weather conditions that challenged them and helped develop their kayaking skills, confidence, and resilience.

These Client Days are an important part of our Diploma in Outdoor Education programme, giving our students the opportunity to complete practical assessment for their Teaching, Learning and Guiding course. With the support of tutor Phil Palzer, Ollie, Riley, Sophia, and Zoe led and coached the Westland High School students throughout the week, gaining valuable real-world experience.

A sweet day in the Trades Academy kitchen!

Our West Coast Trades Academy Cheffing and Bakery students have been putting their skills to the test by creating gluten-free, dairy-free mini mud cakes – and they didn't stop there!

The class also had plenty of fun experimenting with white chocolate decorations, using creativity and technique to turn each cake into its own unique masterpiece. From flowers and hearts to delicate chocolate lattices, everyone had a chance to get creative.

We're all pretty pleased with how they turned out... not too bad if we do say so ourselves! 👏

Well done to all of our students for their hard work, creativity, and attention to detail. We can't wait to see what they create next!

Great Start to the Term at TPP!

It's been awesome to see our programmes coming together through teamwork, learning, and community connections.

Our Foundation Skills students have hit the ground running, with team-building activities led by our Diploma Outdoor Education students. The Foundation Skills students even put on a BBQ for everyone! We've also enjoyed more Outdoor Education client days with local schools, creating memorable experiences for students in our community.

Another highlight has been the collaboration between Papa Taiao Trades Academy students and TPP Carpentry Trades Academy students, working with DOC to build predator traps in the TPP carpentry workshop.

These experiences show the value of collaboration between our programmes and community partners, giving our students meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and give back.

We're incredibly proud of everyone who has been involved. Here's to a great term ahead! 👏
