A special visit from Whaea Jaki today!

It was so awesome to welcome Whaea Jaki back to West Gore today! She brought our whole school together to learn a beautiful waiata, with our tamariki singing in three groups and creating some gorgeous harmonies.

After just a few run-throughs, we recorded it as a special memory, what a beautiful moment! Listen to that harmony at the end 🥰

We loved having you back with us, Whaea Jaki, and we’re so grateful for the knowledge, passion and connection you share with our school. ❤️🎶

Strum by strum, our Ukulele Academy students are building confidence, rhythm, and new musical skills! 🎶

From learning chords to keeping the beat, it’s fantastic to see the focus and concentration they’re bringing to every practice. We can’t wait to hear how they progress!

WOW! Polyfest is done and dusted… but you may have heard a little whisper from your child/children that we’re brewing up ANOTHER performance! 👀

That’s right… West Gore School is putting on a WHOLE SCHOOL PRODUCTION!

📅 Wednesday 23rd September – Week 10
📍 St James Theatre
🎭 MĀUI UNMASKED

Set in the year 2050, Māui Unmasked takes us on a wild journey where legendary Māori storyteller and trickster Māui is brought back to life and put on trial by a futuristic panel deciding which stories are worthy of being remembered. As Māui recounts his legendary adventures - from fishing up Te Ika-a-Māui to slowing down Te Rā - the clash between the ancient and the futuristic makes for plenty of fun, mischief and surprises!

But this production is about so much more than the final performance.

For our tamariki, it is about the experience of being part of something BIG - learning lines, practising choreography, singing, acting, creating props, working together, solving problems, supporting one another and experiencing all the excitement (and occasional chaos!) of rehearsing and preparing a whole school show.

It ties beautifully into our Skills for Growing - being a Team Player, Communicator, Problem Solver, Creative Thinker and Self Manager.

We want our children to look back and remember not just standing on a stage, but the fun, friendships, challenges, achievements and memories they created along the way.

So… SAVE THE DATE!
