Today we launched our newest technology concept, and it all started with a simple question; What do we need to consider if chickens were to live at our school?

To spark curiosity and real-world problem-solving, everyone got to meet and pet some special feathered visitors! The excitement continued with an interactive egg hunt, where children gathered hidden eggs to decode a secret message.

Over the coming weeks, children will be putting on their designer hats to explore animal care, coop housing requirements, health and safety and everyday logistics to help us decide if our school is ready for real chickens.

Stay tuned to see their creative solutions take flight!

Last night, our school community came together to celebrate Matariki.

Our tamariki absolutely shone! From our incredible Kapa Haka group, Choir and Dance Troupe to our student speakers, hosts and beautiful whole-school waiata, their talent, confidence and leadership made everyone proud.

The energy across the school was incredible as we shared kai, swapped stories and explored the stunning window art installations depicting the nine stars of Matariki. The sense of pride, aroha and connectedness in the air was a beautiful reminder of what makes our school community so special.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create memories that will last a lifetime.

Something strange happened at Windy Ridge School today. An "alien" crash-landed on our field!

This mysterious crash launched our new inquiry concept, ‘Planet Earth and Beyond’, as tamariki begin to explore the sun, moon and wider universe.

There were codes to decipher, sirens and evidence to gather. We can't wait to see where their curiosity takes them.

Windy Ridge School was awash with pink as we recognised Pink Shirt Day and stood together against bullying by celebrating kindness, inclusion and respect.

Our tamariki and staff came dressed in pink to highlight the importance of speaking up, supporting others, and creating an environment where everyone feels safe and valued.

Together, we can make a difference by choosing kindness.

Today we recognised and celebrated the incredible, loving and inspiring superwomen in our lives as part of our Mother’s Day celebrations. Our Kapa Haka group welcomed our superwomen and some tamariki shared heartfelt messages about their mums before everyone gathered in their learning spaces to enjoy a range of activities together.

We wish you all a lovely Mothering Sunday and hope you have the opportunity to connect with or remember loved ones.

This afternoon we had our annual Colour Fun Run and sliming. Our tamariki showed great enthusiasm as they ran, laughed and were covered head to toe in colour. It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, supporting one another and having fun. A highlight may have been sliming some of our House Captains, teachers and principal Mrs Owen. A big thank you to our staff and whānau who helped make the event such a success.

Today our tamariki represented our school at the Kāhui Ako cluster sports event, taking part in Touch Rugby, Netball, Basketball and Football. Events like these provide valuable opportunities for our tamariki to build teamwork, show sportsmanship and challenge themselves in a supportive and positive environment. We were proud to see them demonstrating the Windy Ridge Way by being respectful, collaborative and persevering in all they did.

This morning many of us gathered at the Glenfield Memorial Hall to commemorate those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Tamariki, current and past, represented our school, as well as Mayfield Scouts and Glenfield Guides.

As we stood together to remember those who have served, we reflected on the courage, sacrifice, and commitment shown by so many. Their service reminds us of the importance of community, respect, and gratitude, and it was wonderful to see our tamariki representing our school with pride and respect.

We hope everyone enjoys this long weekend with whānau while taking a moment to reflect on the significance of this occasion. Lest we forget.
