Makauri School Gisborne Makauri School is situated on the outskirts of Gisborne City, 10 minutes from the city centre.
The School began as a single classroom in 1886 and is one of the oldest schools in the Gisborne region. Makauri School today has 190 students in eight classrooms and enjoys the best of being a rural school close to town and the facilities Gisborne has to offer. The school has the puriri tree as its logo. A puriri tree, planted in the earliest days of the school in the 1800s, stands at the front of the school.

In Rugby today the Makauri Development team faced Te Wharau Development, the team showed all the school vaules on and off the feild and bringing home the 25-40 win. Player of the day went to Gus. Thank you Tania from helping transport, and Hamish and Herb for helping the team out.

🏃♀️🏃The weather played ball, everyone showed true grit and determination and there was a lot of peserverance/hiringa on display.
🏃♀️🏃The ditch was true to form gobbling up a few crocs and sneakers yet again!!

Netball skills with Mrs Toon is on after school today. This will be in the hall if the weather isn’t nice.

🏉 WHAT A MATCH! 🏉
What an absolute thriller of a rugby game today as Makauri took on Central with the legendary Weka Ball on the line!
It was a fiercely contested match right from the opening whistle. Makauri came out firing, putting early pressure on the opposition and taking a strong 2-0 lead. Central wasn't backing down, though—they fought their way back into the game and managed to wrestle control, snatching the lead for themselves before the break.
Our kids showed incredible heart and determination in the second half, digging deep to regain the lead and setting up an unbelievable finish. In the dying minutes, a relentless Central team proved just too good, crossing the line to level the scores right before the final whistle blew.
Because Central came in as the current holders of the Weka Ball, the draw means they hold onto it for now—but what a fight our team put up!
Win, lose, or draw, every single player should be immensely proud of their effort, sportsmanship, and grit today. You left everything out on the field and put on a fantastic show for everyone on the sidelines!
Huge congratulations to Central on retaining the Weka Ball after such a incredible battle. We can't wait for the next rematch!

A huge congratulations to our Makauri Interschool Badminton team for their awesome performance at the Gisborne Schools Tournament today! Our boys' team brought home 3rd place, while our two girls' teams fought hard in the finals to secure 3rd and 4th place. Fantastic effort, everyone! You all did so well 🎉
