School Leaver Scholarships | EIT Hawke's Bay and Tairāwhiti 16/08/2026

🎓 A $5,000 scholarship could help kickstart your future.

Applications are closing soon for EIT's 2027 School Leaver Scholarships. EIT are awarding 10 scholarships worth $5,000 each to eligible secondary school students from Tairāwhiti who are planning to study a bachelor's degree at EIT in 2027.

Apply by Monday 31 August.

The Air New Zealand Academy of Learning's Level 3 pre-employment programme is a practical, hands-on pathway for people interested in pursuing a career in aeronautical engineering. The programme leads to the New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Pre-Employment Skills) (Level 3) and is designed to help learners build foundational knowledge, practical skills, and confidence for future training, qualifications, and opportunities across the aviation industry. This programme is suited to people who enjoy problem-solving, working with their hands, and learning in a practical environment.

Successful participants who achieve the qualification may choose to explore opportunities across the aviation industry, including but not limited to Air New Zealand. Completion of the programme does not guarantee employment with Air New Zealand or any specific employer.

GBHS offers a Defensive Driving Course for those who hold their restricted license.
This is a 4 session course held over 4 days. 8.30am to 11am in the careers office at GBHS. All 4 sessions must be attended to pass. This also includes a test drive with the We Train You driving instructor, who will give feed back on your readiness to sit your full license.
The next course for 2026 will be held: Tuesday 28th, Thursday 30th July, Tuesday 4th and Thursday 6th August 2026. Payment of $180.00 is required by Friday 24th July 2026 to secure your place. SPACES ARE LIMITED. You can gain 15 L2 Credits by completing this course. If you would like to attend please come to the careers office to get a consent form.

Are you 16? Want to obtain your learner licence? The next learner licence is Tuesday 25th & Wednesday26th August. The cost is $96.10, this covers 1 day of tuition and the test fee and must be paid before the 20th August to the accounts office. Spaces are limited and only secured by payment being received. Consent forms can be collected from the Careers Office

First Aid Course - Wednesday 22nd July
We will be holding a First Aid Course on Wednesday 22nd July - 8.30am to 5pm at We Train You Gisborne. This will be the only First Aid Course this year.
We have limited spaces available. The cost is $100 per student. To secure you spot please come to the careers office and collect a consent form. Once payment has been made to the account office your space will be confirmed.

REMINDER
All Year 12 students will be attending the RYDA Driver Safety Programme tomorrow, Tuesday 9 June, at the House of Breakthrough. Boys are to meet in the hall at the beginning of first period where the roll will be taken. Buses will transport them there and back. We will be back by 2.30pm. Lunch will be provided. Bring a pen, a water bottle and a positive attitude!
