As you will have heard, a State of Emergency has been declared in Manawatū due to the severe weather forecast.
At this stage, we intend to remain open tomorrow. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely, and if anything changes, we will provide an update by 7.00am.
In the meantime, if you have any concerns about road or travel safety in your area, please keep your children at home and let the school know.

⚠️ A regional pre-emptive state of emergency has been declared. This declaration covers the entire Manawatū-Whanganui Region and applies as of 6.37pm today (Sun 15 Feb).

The declaration comes in the wake of MetService issuing a red heavy rain warning for parts of Ruapehu, Rangitīkei and Manawatū. This rain is forecast to mainly fall in the ranges before flowing through rivers towards the coast.

This shows how seriously we are taking this weather event. You too should take it seriously:

✅ Move items away from areas of your property that usually flood.
✅ Clear gutters and drains where it is safe to do so.
✅ Bring inside anything that could be lifted by strong winds, or tie it down securely.
✅ Bring pets inside where possible.
✅ Charge phones and devices.
✅ Stay away from areas at risk of slips.
✅ Move livestock in low lying areas to paddocks that are safe from floodwaters, landslides, isolated trees, and power lines.
✅ If a landslide occurs, keep well clear - further movement can happen without warning.
✅ Stay out of the water and away from beaches.
✅ Be prepared to move to higher ground if needed.
✅ Secure boats and trailers properly.

You may have heard about proposed changes to the law that affects how schools recognize Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We want to assure our St Mary’s School community that our commitment remains absolute.

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Pope Francis. We ask you join with us in praying for his repose and for our church in this time of mourning.

Pope Francis died on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta.

This morning we welcomed our new students and their families to St Mary’s School. Among our new families were some familiar faces of former students.
We love that they have chosen to bring their children to the school they went to also!
Also impressive is how well our tamariki know the Kawa and protocols for powhiri and how much respect they show for the Manuhiri and themselves.
