Kiwi and Kea Tamariki enjoyed exploring the lemon squeezers today. Kaiako demonstrated how to place the lemon into the squeezer and then push it together to make the juice come out. There were long strips of lemon peel for tamariki to pick up feel and smell and we even added backing soda to watch the lemon juice fizz! Through this learning experience ngā tamariki are using trial and error skills and their own working theories to get the squeeze to work as well as a great sensory experience.

The Kiwi tamariki have been learning their names. Today Kaiako facilitated an activity where nga tamariki had to cut the letters of their name out and then place them back together by gluing them on the paper. Nga tamariki did this independently and some with their name card. They then wrote their name under. Through this learning nga tamariki are developing name and letter recognition and fine motor and hand and eye coordination skills through cutting, gluing and writing their name. So clever Tamariki mā!

🍝 Friday Cooking with the Fantail’s

Today in the Fantail room, kaiako and tamariki worked together to create some delicious mince pasta with cheese! 🧀🍝

Tamariki had the opportunity to take turns stirring the mince, carefully watching and learning about how we safely use the hot frying pan. They showed great curiosity as we added the pasta and sauce, watching all the ingredients combine together to create a delicious, warm kai for us to share.

There was lots of excitement as tamariki watched their kai come together, and even more enjoyment when it was time to sit down and taste our creation! Tamariki enjoyed sharing this yummy hot treat together on a Friday lunchtime.

Ka pai, tamariki! You worked together, took turns and showed great care while helping to prepare our kai.

Today our Pūkeko tamariki spent time showing our pēpi some aroha, as they bathed, dried, dressed, and tucked them into bed. Kaiako supported their learning through naming body parts in reo Māori and reo pākehā, as well as encouraging gentle hands and guiding them through putting on their kākahu. What a beautiful display of manaakitanga!

We’re off to the supermarket!
Today the Fantail tamariki went to the ‘Preschool supermarket’, they used their pretend play skills to shop around, filling their bags with all different goodies. Whaea Sophie heard lots of brilliant language as tamariki named the different Kai and objects that they were buying.
A lot of our tamariki are familiar with going to the supermarket with their Whānau where they occasionally run into one of their kaiako.

Playdough fun in the kea room. Ngā tamariki explored creating real life experiences through templates. Using different colored playdough encouraged different korero surrounding ice cream flavors and what everyone likes to eat! We also used the face templates to share korero around expressions and feelings. Ka pai e hoa ma

This month kea and kiwi tamariki enjoyed exploring the sensory farm using multiple animals green dyed rice and playdough. Ngā tamariki loved role-playing with the farm animals and seeing the different footprints each animal had made in the playdough.
