What an incredible day, with our whole Kainui Cluster coming together to share waiata in the spirit of Manaakitanga – caring.

We are incredibly proud of our rōpū — their passion, their enjoyment and the absolute skill they showed. They represented Colyton beautifully.

A massive thank you to Whaea Milana and Mrs Skelton-Morris, and to all our staff who restructure every Friday to make kapa haka possible. It was also lovely to have so many parents join us — thank you for being such a great audience and sharing in the day with us.

Very proud of our kids, and very proud to be part of the Kainui Cluster.

ORO ATUA – it’s hard to find the words to describe such an amazing musical experience.

This term we are exploring the stories that can be told through music and art, and Monday was something pretty special. Puoro Jerome and Whaea Ruiha have an incredible way of connecting our students to their whakapapa, grounding them and creating a sense of calm.

“I felt anxious, now I’m relaxed.”
“I was stressed, now I am calm.”
“I was worried, now I know everything will be okay.”

Watching our students discover the creativity that can come from nature, music and the world around them was pretty amazing! From snail shells and whale bone to albatross bones and moa bones... you name it, Jerome can "find the sound" of these amazing taonga!

Here's a wee video to give you a wee preview of the magic...but nothing can beat being present in the moment.

Thank you Puoro Jerome and Whaea Ruiha for coming back to our school and sharing your knowledge, creativity and skill.
