Our boys played in the U15s, Fast pace, 3v3 One day basketball tournament in Palmy on the weekend and won Gold🥇. They played x7 10-20min games, won 5 and lost 1 to make the finals and won their 7th game against the team they lost to. Shot boys 👍🏽.

Te Aokaparamgi was MVP and he and Jahmaze were named in the Fantastic Four team of the tournament.

Senior A Kapa Haka preparing for the promo tour to Wellington on the 16th to the 20th September. The boys will be visiting various schools throughout Wellington before a final performance on the 20th. Stay tuned to see more information. Ngā uhi i taraihia i ngā whakairo o te Whare Karakia o Pāora. Me ngā pikitia o ngā Tohunga kaiwhakairo.

These are some of the chisels that carved and shaped the Whakairo of our chapel. These will be on display for the boys to view before being cleaned and prepared for the Mahi to carry on. There will of course be some put aside for historical sentiment.

Visit by Father David Gledhill
Pā Rawiri worked at Hato Paora from 1967 to 1977 and became a much loved mentor to many old boys who still remain connected to Pā Rawiri to this day. In his time he had learnt to carve Whakairo alongside tōhunga whakairo, Moni Taumaunu and Wi Mou. Pā Rawiri also went on to help teach whakairo at the kura, whose purpose for todays visit was to bring his chisels to kura where they can sing the waiata of the kūrū once again, in the hands of our future, capable carvers waiting to be revealed. It was also fitting that mass was taken by one of Hato Paora's very own son's and former rector of Hato Paora College, Father Jack Smith. Ngā Manaakitanga ki a kōrua.

Ōrongomai Marae 50th Celebration
A performing group consisting of our Junior A Kapa Haka group and select Seniors, travelled to Wellington to support our whanau from Upper Hutt by performing at the Hakari alongside local kura and Kohanga. A native tree was planted to commemorate the occasion with events that had taken place throughout the week and into the weekend. Below are photos taken after the boys had performed for the whanau, where they planted a Totara and signed a time capsule for the Marae. Rā whanau ki a koutou e te Marae o Ōrongomai.

Ā couple of updates. A group of students from year 9 to year 13 were selected to Wānanga with old boy (2001-2005) Eugene Tēmara, a successful composer, writer and performer of Ngati Whakaue and Origin Roots Aotearoa. These students are our current and future writers and composers of the school. This wānanga was to help inspire and grow leaders in this space and to take back and inspire others what they had learnt. There will be future opportunities for the boys to Wānanga, or as Eugene puts it, "Yarnanga!". The first step has been taken.

Kauwhata Māori Women’s Welfare League are hosting an amazing day of hauora, manaakitanga, and breast cancer awareness as they come together to support, uplift, and empower one another on Sunday 26th July from 10am to 3pm.

This is a free event with plenty of awesome things happening and everyone is welcome!
