Daffodil Day is an important day for us here at Busy Bees Manchester Street, and we were proud to come together to support the Cancer Society of New Zealand.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff who baked and donated delicious goodies for our bake sale. With the support of our wonderful whānau and community, we raised an incredible $175.50 for this important cause!

We also had a fantastic dress-up day, with our tamariki looking wonderful in their yellow outfits. To top it all off, one of our kaiako took out the title of "Champion Dresser Upper" with a bright and creative costume that certainly stood out!

Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraiser and helped make Daffodil Day such a special success.

Cold mornings have given us magical icy surprises, sparking lots of curiosity. Tamariki have enjoyed target practice against the fence, showed confidence and excitement on our trip to Lytton Street School, and expressed plenty of artistic flair indoors. Outdoors, strength and agility have been on full display through active, energetic play.

School Holiday Fun

During the school holidays we enjoyed lots of fun activities each day. We had delicious treats like ice cream with sprinkles and biscuit decorating. The children loved our themed days too — Crazy Sock Day, Blue and Red Day, Dress-Up Day, and a bubbly Bubble Day. There was so much excitement throughout the week. So much fun!

Last year, with the support of one of our wonderful whānau, we set up our very own worm farm with some tiger worms. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength!
This week, we collected our worm wee for the very first time—and there was so much of it! The tamariki helped use it to water our gardens, nourishing the plants and helping them thrive. We even had enough to fill jars and share as part of our Matariki celebrations.
This has been a fantastic way to learn about sustainability, caring for Papatūānuku, and giving back to our community.

✨ Raranga and Matariki Magic at Busy Bees ✨

We were incredibly excited to welcome Whaea Cindy to our centre today.
Whaea Cindy brought along some beautiful harakeke (flax) and spent time with our tamariki sharing the art of raranga (weaving). There were many excited faces as little hands carefully created whetū (stars) and ika (fish) to take home and treasure. ⭐🐟
A huge thank you to Whaea Cindy for sharing her time, knowledge, and skills with us. Experiences like these help our tamariki connect with te ao Māori and learn about the traditions that are so important during Matariki.
Raranga is a deeply rooted Māori tradition, often practised during Matariki as a way to reflect, share mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge), strengthen connections with whānau, and honour the nine stars of the Matariki cluster. ✨

With our dedicated kaiako guiding the way, our beautiful little taonga are immersed in a rich and meaningful culture.
Today, one of our pēpi embraced te ao Māori through music and movement—using the rākau with confidence and joy as we sang E Papa Waiari together.
It was so special to see his wairua shine, exploring rhythm, coordination, and connection through this treasured waiata. Moments like these remind us how powerful culture, language, and learning can be when woven together
