Today kindy was bursting with sunshine, yellow dress ups, bright smiles and rainbows galore!!! 🌈☀️

We have a wealth of open-ended, loose part materials to explore at kindergarten. Loose parts are materials and objects that have the flexibility to be combined, redesigned, pulled apart and put back together, carried around, manipulated, put into patterns or used as visual representations for children’s imaginations. Loose parts invite tamariki to explore and discover, imagine and create, inquire and experiment, learning through play as develop working theories about the world 🌍 around them.

Cornflour gloop, one of our favourite messy play recipes! Messy play provides rich opportunities for Tamariki to explore, experiment and learn through their senses. As they mix, pour, squish, scoop and create tamariki are developing communication skills, mathematical concepts, problem-solving skills, creativity and coordination, while building confidence as capable and curious learners. We see manaakitanga and tuakana-teina relationships flourish as tamariki support one another, learn from each other and celebrate our discoveries.

🎨Most importantly it is fun!! The joy, excitement and delight shining from our Tamariki’s faces show just how much they are enjoying learning through play🎨

Through play, arts and crafts, waiata and pukapuka, tamariki have been learning about and exploring Matariki and the nine stars within the cluster. Through these experiences, tamariki have shared their ideas and discoveries with one another, nurturing curiosity, creativity and a growing appreciation for the world around them.
Matariki reminds us of the values of whānau, kindness and gratitude. It is a time to remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and look ahead with hope for the future.
Last week, our tamariki enjoyed making a delicious soup together, which we shared with our whānau. We also shared waiata, bringing everyone together in celebration of this special time of reflection, connection and new beginnings.

Next Tuesday, 5th May at 2.15-3.15pm, the Whaiora Mobile Health Unit will be parked up outside kindergarten.

Whaiora’s mobile health unit supports tamariki and whānau by bringing accessible, whānau centered health services directly into the community. The mobile clinic provides health resources, guidance, and referrals to support a range of health and social needs, strengthening access to care for whānau.

The health unit offers child and adult immunisations, basic heart checks, blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks, screening guidance, nurse led skin and ear checks, general health discussions, health and social services navigation and referral pathways. They also offer free flu jabs for tamariki and whānau.
