College Music Showcase

Yesterday, Fairlie Primary School (and other local schools) attended a musical variety performance hosted by Mackenzie College. This annual Showcase gives those in the audience who might be going to the College a taste of what musical instruments are available to learn.

On display were some ensemble numbers where students played with their tutors; this included the violin and flute. For the brass demonstration FPS's own Gracious played the trumpet, her first performance after starting lessons at the College earlier this year. Students also played the piano, bagpipes, and guitar and several sang us a song. The concert ended with a band up on stage, also giving their first live performance.

It was a true celebration of different musical instruments and styles, which hopefully inspired a bunch of future musicians.

Huge thanks to Claire Dann (who works at the College and FPS) for organising this great opportunity.

❄️Winter Options Week 5 ❄️

The Value in Action team were our true community champions. Our students took to the main street with total confidence and respect, selling their homemade creations for Daffodil Day. Thanks to their amazing hustle, we raised over $300 for the Cancer Society! 🌼🌼

Our Something for Everyone team turned into little engineers this morning with a STEM bridge-building challenge. Equipped with only popsicle sticks and tape, our clever crews built structures strong enough to hold 40 rocks—and even survived massive rocks from the garden! They then soaked up the sun with an outdoor wheel session. The kids zoomed around the track, expertly navigating our "stop and go" intersection with a perfect zero-accident safety record. They loved it so much that most opted for round two in the afternoon! 🚴🛴

Both ski groups made the most of being at school by making cards for the wonderful crew up the mountains before splitting into junior and senior. The juniors had fun with STEM with lots of great creations and fun with the sphero bots, Indi the car and the beebots. The seniors had fun with photography taking close up photos of items around the school and then they had to guess what the items were. 📸

Stay tuned for our very last winter options for the 2026 school year this Friday. Fingers and toes crossed our skiers can get a run down the slopes.

MACKENZIE SKI RACE CANCELLED

In consultation with the Ski School Manager at Roundhill, it has been decided that we will cancel the 2026 Mackenzie Ski Race, with conditions not conducive to racing.

We have made this decision based on travel for schools, and poor racing conditions, based on today.

Apologies for any inconvenience, but we have made the decision based on what we have discussed this afternoon.

❄️Winter Options Week 4 ❄️

Something for everyone kicked off the morning with tech rotations! The kids mapped out tracks for Indi, drove the Sphero balls, and were absolutely obsessed with getting the Bee-Bots to tow magnetic trailers! Then onto building a standing figure using only cardboard, tape, wool, fabric, and scissors! It was tricky at first, but everyone showed awesome resilience and created the cutest little creatures. Next up team games! The kids powered through human bridge races and worked in pairs to collect balls without using their hands—so much laughter and great teamwork. ⚽ 🤖

Sadly Mt Dobson was closed today which saw lots of disgruntled students wandering into school this morning but Mrs Simmonds soon turned that look into excitement. She turned frustration into pure creativity! The kids jumped right into making ski-themed stop-motion videos, starting by painting scenic backgrounds and crafting custom skiers. They turned their photos into videos ready for an afternoon premiere after watching the rest of Johnny Tsunami. 🎬🎥

Our Roundhill skiers had another fantastic day up the mountain today. The weather was beautiful and the students continued to show up and give it their all, while making such progress. Miss Sadler loves seeing our school values in action outside of the classroom.🌞⛷

Our Values in Action crew hit the road today to Timaru where they adventured to Chipmunks after their trip got delayed last week. They also got to visit the C-Bay playground which is always a big hit with the children. Sounds like the children on the trip were being confident in trying new playground activities which is awesome. 🎢😃

Our awesome Values in Action crew are supporting Daffodil Day by helping with the fundraiser on the main street next week so if you are around make sure you head on down and support them.

Stay tuned for next week’s adventures of our winter options.

✨ Nacho Ordinary Lunch! ✨

There were big smiles (and full bellies) all around the school today during our Home & School Nacho Lunch! By making great use of leftover food from Beats by Bingo, our team served up a delicious treat for all the students who ordered.

A huge thank you goes out to:
Rachael – For her superstar organisation in bringing this fundraiser together!
Anita & Kirsty – For generously donating the mince.
Vanessa – For donating the delicious sour cream top-up.
Rachael & Kirsty – For working hard in the kitchen dishing up all those yummy nachos today!

We appreciate our school community so much. Thank you all for supporting this fundraiser! ❤️
