Kia ora e te whānau,

We have been advised of two confirmed cases of chickenpox affecting two of our students.

Chickenpox is a common viral infection that spreads easily, particularly among children. It causes itchy red spots that develop into fluid-filled blisters and may also lead to symptoms such as fever, tiredness, and general discomfort.

Please be vigilant for the signs and symptoms of chickenpox and keep your child at home if symptoms are present. If your child is diagnosed with, or suspected of having, chickenpox, please let the school know. This helps us to monitor and reduce the spread of infection within our kura and minimise further transmission.

As part of the Year 10 P.E. programme, students have been participating in boxing classes facilitated by Whakatane Boxing. These sessions provide 'benefits beyond boxing' - helping students learn to manage challenges, set goals, stay disciplined, and develop the confidence to perform under pressure.

Taina Pokai, a passionate boxing coach, is committed to supporting rangatahi to build confidence, resilience, and self-discipline through boxing. His goal is to equip young people with the mindset, discipline, and resilience needed to succeed in all areas of life.

A huge thank you to Taina and Whakatane Boxing for their positive impact on our students this term.
