Piano Lessons with Vanessa Tindle I am a registered teacher of Piano and Music Theory (IRMTNZ) with a Teachers Diploma from Trinity College, London (A.T.C.L). All enquiries are welcome.

I have been teaching music in Eastbourne since 2007. I have a music studio at Muritai School where I give lessons during school hours and I also teach from home after school. I am classically trained but teach all genre; classical, jazz/blues and popular. I strive to create lessons that are positive and foster a love and appreciation for music. For students that wish to work toward examinations, I

follow the Associated Board Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) syllabus. These are internationally recognised examinations and a very high standard is expected. Several of my students have been invited to play at the Royal Schools of Music High Achiever’s Concert in Wellington after gaining high Distinctions in their piano examinations. Each year I have a piano recital which provides performance opportunity for students in a supportive and encouraging environment. I can be contacted by phone after hours.

Shan Lui's performance of Prokofiev with the NZSO was outstanding, particularly for someone so young. He clearly loves the music and performing. His virtuoso playing, dynamic range, impeccable timing and showmanship were fabulous. He also gave a beautifully sensitive encore of Schumann's "Traumerei" (Dreaming).
The entire evening was memorable. The conductor was engaging with both audience, soloist and orchestra. The NZSO's performance of Tchaikovsky Symphony No 4, in the second half, was brilliant!!

An Auckland teenager who limits his practice to two hours a day will take the stage with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Wellington this weekend.

Really looking forward to seeing Shan Liu perform Prokofiev tonight with the NZSO!

Don't miss Kiwi prodigy Shan Liu make his New Zealand Symphony Orchestra debut in our live broadcast from 6:30pm Friday 24th July 2026. The 16-year-old Auckland pianist will play Prokofiev's 'Piano Concerto No 3' with the NZSO in the orchestra's concert 'Let there be light'.

Congratulations to Lara who gave a poised and thoughtful performance at the YMF this weekend. Lara performed four Grade 3 pieces, two by NZ composers. The adjudicator said Lara's interpretation of "Lazy Cat" was "peaceful & nicely shaped with some beautiful RH tone". Well done Lara.

At the end of Olive's lesson this week, we had some fun improvising. I played a continous base line and asked Olive to listen, feel 4 beats, and improvise a melody in d minor using 5-finger position only. This is our "Improvisation in d minor".
