Road closed

As previously posted Macandrew has closed from today. Since dropping off your children this morning you will notice that you can no longer drive down Macandrew, the section that is closed is on Macandrew road between Surrey street and Richmond street. You will also notice that access to Macandrew road via Forbury road, turning left onto Macandrew road is now closed. You can still access the centre from Surrey street on either side or Fitzroy street. Hopefully this disruption will only be for this week and next week we will be back to normal.

Thank you

Mud cakes and potion play was a hit today. Children were experimenting, mixing, pouring, stirring, mashing and working together to create wonderful creations.

I have noticed that our Mindcraft magnetic blocks that one of our teachers brought in to share with us are very popular. These game inspired blocks represent different element and building materials that together can create towns, cities and other creations.

Through this experience children were not only engaged in co-operation, team work, sharing, turn taking and negotiation. they had the opportunity to learn problem solving, critical thinking, resource management and creativity.

I was really impressed with how long the tamariki were engaged in this experience that was created by them. They not only took the responsibility for setting up this experience they took the lead role in making it fair for all involved. Tino pai to mahi tamariki

Rainy day Tuesday activities inside. With this unpredictable summer weather we have been experiencing lately, we need to be prepared for all types of weather. Our usual philosophy is to get outside even if it rains and we find our selves often saying "there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing". however today we are not prepared for this persistent rain so we have decided to stay inside. To help us prepare for all types of weather can you please bring your jackets with you everyday. We will be looking at getting wet weather gear for the centre in the future. Stay nice and dry everyone!!!

With a heavy rain warning in place for Dunedin, we wanted to keep you informed. There is some surface flooding especially on Forbury Road but as you can see we are not affected at this stage and we are keeping warm, dry and busy inside. We will keep an eye on the situation and update you as the day goes on.

I caught this beautiful moment today at the Infants and Toddlers centre. The tamariki engaged with scarves to express themselves as the music played gently in the background. This sensory experience promotes hand-eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, coordination, balance, cooperation and spatial awareness. scarves enhance our music sessions and add another layer to an already favourite activity.
