We're often asked what the difference is between a weather watch and a weather warning, and when different action is taken. 🤔
So, we’ve translated it into southern terms – the making of a cheese roll. 🧀
🟡 A ‘Weather Watch’ means the cheese rolls (severe weather) have not yet been made (weather has not arrived) but we have all the ingredients (signs) that cheese rolls COULD be made.
🟠 A ‘Weather Warning’ means the cheese rolls have been made and we are having them NOW (weather has arrived and we will experience severe conditions).
🌧 Just like anytime we cook, it is important to be prepared. Our chefs (contractors) regularly work hard during possible cheese roll making (weather events) to clear the counters (gutters and mud tanks). However, they can't be everywhere at once, so we're asking our kitchenhands (you) to help clear any debris from nearby drains if you can and leave any scraps (leaves or debris) out for our chefs to collect. If there is anything urgent, you can contact us on 0800 477 4000.
💦 Right now, we are in a Heavy Rain Watch. We are receiving regular updates, which can also be found on the MetService New Zealand website. Keep an eye on our pages and metservice.com/towns-cities/locations/dunedin for any relevant updates.
