YOU CAN’T BUILD A STRONG HOUSE ON WEAK FOUNDATIONS.

Maths works a bit like that.

If a child hasn’t securely developed an earlier skill, the next skill can become harder…

…and the next one harder again.

Eventually, maths starts to feel overwhelming.

That’s why effective mathematics teaching needs to be sequential.

🧩 Identify the missing piece.
🧠 Teach it clearly.
✏️ Practise it.
💬 Give feedback.
✅ Make it secure.
➡️ Then build on it.

This is one of the principles behind our maths programme at In2learning.

We’re not interested in simply racing children through content.

We’re interested in building the skills underneath it.

WHY WE DON’T JUST GIVE YOUR CHILD MORE WORKSHEETS

Because completing a worksheet isn’t the same as learning.

If a child doesn’t understand the skill underneath the question, giving them another 20 questions may simply mean…

❌ 20 more opportunities to practise the mistake.

Effective tutoring needs to involve teaching.

At In2learning, we focus on:

We are unapologetically face to face tutoring ONLY.
Online tutoring may be “convenient”, but NOTHING beats relationship building ,having quality conversations and good “old fashioned” pen to paper activities. Having a teacher sit alongside them to guide, mentor, teach, explain, model is priceless .
Our tutoring approach is quite simple.
Keep it simple.
Keep it real.
In a world of AI, fakery, 3-30second videos designed to capture the scrolling addicted- we are unapologetically “old fashioned”. Because it works.

MORE TUTORING DOESN’T NECESSARILY MEAN BETTER RESULTS.

Here’s something the research tells us that might surprise you…

Simply comparing children who receive tutoring with those who don’t can be misleading.

Why?

Because children who are already struggling are more likely to receive tutoring in the first place.

So if a child starts behind and then receives tutoring, looking only at their final result doesn’t tell us whether the tutoring helped.

That’s why the quality of the intervention matters.

Research examining experimental tutoring programmes has found meaningful positive effects on academic achievement.

So what should parents look for?

🎯 Targeted teaching
📚 A structured programme
🧩 Skills taught in manageable steps
✏️ Plenty of purposeful practice
💬 Feedback and correction
📈 Progress that can actually be measured

It’s not about keeping a child busy.

It’s about helping them learn.

🇰🇷 WHAT DOES SOUTH KOREA KNOW ABOUT LEARNING?

South Korea has one of the world’s strongest cultures of supplementary education — and its students consistently perform highly in international mathematics assessments.

But here’s the interesting part…

Research comparing different types of tutoring found that group tutoring was positively associated with mathematics achievement in South Korea.

Why might that matter?

Because effective learning isn’t necessarily about sitting one-on-one with a tutor.

It can be about:

👥 Learning alongside others
🧠 Seeing different ways of solving a problem
✏️ Practising skills repeatedly
💬 Getting immediate feedback
🎯 Receiving targeted teaching

The goal isn’t simply more time spent learning.

Happy Father’s Day to all those amazing dads out there. I meet a lot of them when they come to drop off and pick up their children. Supportive, kind, full of dad jokes but most of all the love they have for their child just always shows through. Dads are special. It’s good to acknowledge them.
My own dad passed when I was 17 and when I I was in my 20s I was lucky to have a new man show up for our family who I proudly call my dad.
Wishing all the dads a great day filled with socks, un**es and beer!

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM SINGAPORE?

Singapore consistently sits at the top of the world for mathematics achievement.

And here’s something interesting…

📚 Supplementary learning is a normal part of education for many Singaporean students.

But it’s not simply about doing more maths.

It’s about purposeful learning.

✔️ Addressing gaps

The lesson for us?
