Year 13 Trinity students Joseph Kelly and Tim Stevens spent the July school holidays on an international tour with the New Zealand Secondary Student’s Choir (NZSSC). The NZSSC started their trip with a 40th anniversary and farewell tour concert at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland.

The talented teens then flew with the choir to Hong Kong for the World Choir Festival, and onto Singapore for the Voices of the World Festival. The tour included 15 performances, some outside in 30 plus degree heat. In Singapore they recorded “We Are The World” with youth choirs from several other countries, under the direction of composer Darius Lim. The music video will be released on International Children’s Day.

What an amazing experience for our two talented Trinity performers! Well done Joseph and Tim - we are very proud of you!

Last Wednesday the Trinity Boys First XI Football team finished their regular season with a 1-1 draw against John McGlashan College in the last game of the round robin, booking themselves a place in the semi-final. Well done on a great season boys!

The semi-final match is against Kings High School First XI, THIS Wednesday 29th July, 5:00pm at the turf. Get your supporters gear on, and head down to cheer on our Trinity First XI Football Team! Go well Team Trinity!

Well done to the Year 12 students who took part in TheatreFest yesterday and performed a short piece called “Bad At Being Bad”, written and directed by Riley Culling and Sophie Jonathan. The group secured three awards which was awesome:

A massive congratulations to Lilly Hamilton and her 'Wild 1's' crew who competed in Invercargill at the NZCAF Regional Championships over the holiday break and placed FIRST, securing a spot at the National Championships in Dunedin this September! A fantastic achievement.

We are very proud of you Lilly, and admire how committed you and your crew are to your training. Keep up the great work!

During the second week of the holidays, the Parakiore Sports Centre in Christchurch hosted the Basketball Nationals and Mainland Champs, and a number of our Trinity athletes represented our region with pride.

A special congratulations to Year 10 students Zkaria Pasese and Lulu Mahoney, who competed as members of the Otago U16 Girls A Basketball team. Facing tough competition from across the country, the team played with incredible energy and determination, finishing in a remarkable 5th place nationally - the highest placing achieved ever by this age-group representative team at the national tournament. Congratulations girls, we are extremely proud of you!

The Otago Under 16A boys team finished 12th at the Nationals. Congratulations to Chester Osborne, Thomas McEntrye, Sean Racaza, Leo Patston and Jimmy MacKenzie who were all selected in this rep team. The U16A boys team was coached by our very own Mr Taukamo, and the manager was Mrs Patston.

Mainland Champs

The Under 16 and U18 B teams competed at the Mainland Basketball Champs, and a big congratulations goes out to Isla Harris and Katia Walker whose team finished 3rd in the Under 16 girls division. Winning 4 out of 6 games, the team ended up securing a victory in their quarter final match against Buller and placed 3rd overall. Well done girls!

Zach Tibay-Azarcon, Tom Lanham and Billy Jackson-Falconer also finished 3rd in the Under 16B boys division, and Deacon Gwilliam Browne, Lucca Ellison and Beau Hayden ended their competition finishing 10th in the Under 18B boys. Great to see so many players getting noticed on the basketball court.

It is wonderful to see new traditions being created at Trinity, especially as we celebrate our 150th year. At the start of the holidays, our Junior Rugby Team was excited to have support on the sidelines from the unbeaten Kavanagh 1st XV of 2006. This team went unbeaten across fifteen games to claim the 2006 Otago Secondary Schools 1st XV Championship banner. Their sideline support was appreciated by our junior team and it spurred them on to win 56-12 against SOHS.
A special Championship Reunion Medal was presented by 2006 captain and Kavanagh College Head Boy, Brendan (Ox) Eathorne, to the Player of the Day at the game. This presentation marks the beginning of an annual acknowledgement that will coincide with the 2027 Jonathan Cutler Keogh Memorial Trophy fixture between the Dunedin and University Rugby clubs. A huge congratulations to Eamon Henderson who was the well-deserved winner of this special reunion medal for 2026.
