Sharing showcase exhibitions like Genomes – The Science of Life and Science of Medicines | Te Mātauranga o te Rongoā, a small team of academics brought hands-on STEM engagement straight to eager students from secondary schools in the Solomon Islands. From extracting fruit DNA and playing Biodiversity Jenga to learning about traditional and modern medicine, it was an amazing opportunity to spark curiosity and connect through pūtaiao.

A three-person team, led by Associate Professor Greg Walker from Otago’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, has just returned from the Solomon Islands after sharing a range of interactive science experiences with local schools.

Eight tauira recently returned from an unforgettable month-long haerenga (journey) to Rapa Nui! 🗿✨ Supported by a Prime Minister’s Scholarship, the rōpū shared mātauranga (knowledge), explored Indigenous culture, and built lifelong whanaungatanga (connections) with the local community. 💙

Te reo Māori will be seen, heard and celebrated across Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka this Wiki o te Reo Māori 2026. At the Central Library on the Dunedin campus, preparations are under way for a week of opportunities for tauira and kaimahi to kōrero, learn and engage with te reo Māori. The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori has also organised a range of events for tauira and kaimahi to take part in. Each day of the week has its very own theme and goal to help prompt the use of te reo.
