Kia ora whānau and friends,
Out of respect for the recent passing at St Clair this afternoon, a rāhui has been placed over St Clair and St Kilda beach and the wider area until further notice.
A rāhui is a temporary restriction grounded in tikanga Māori. It is placed to acknowledge a loss, protect the mana of those affected, and allow space for healing. It also serves as a sign of respect. This applies to the gathering of Kaimoana (seafood) aswell as recreational activities.
We all ask our community to put aside certain activities in the area during this time.
While the rāhui is in place, we ask that the public refrain from entering the water and using the affected section of beach. This is not only out of respect, but also to allow whānau, responders, and our wider community time to grieve.
We extend our aroha to the whānau and all those impacted.
Ngā mihi nui,
St Clair Surf Life-saving Club

🚨HEAVY RAIN WATCH🚨
🌧 MetService has issued a Heavy Rain Watch for Dunedin.
☔Heavy rain is expected to occur from 4am to 7pm tomorrow (Tuesday 17 February) and amounts may approach warning criteria. There is a moderate chance the watch will be upgraded to a warning.
👷 We’re keeping a close eye on the forecast, and in the meantime our contractors are getting our network ready by checking stormwater systems, sweeping gutters and clearing mud tanks/grates in low-lying and high-risk areas.
🏠 We are asking residents to please check nearby mud tank grates for debris. If you notice a grate covered with debris and are able to, please clear debris to the footpath for our contractors to collect.
📰We will update you here if the situation changes.
