🎩 Dress-up fun in the Kiwi Room! 🩰

The Kiwi Room tamariki have been having lots of fun exploring dress-ups! From spinning and twirling in tutus to hiding under hats before popping up with a cheerful “Peek-a-boo!” 👒😊

Our kaiako have even been encouraged to join in the fun, with the children choosing fancy hats and tutus for them to try on too!

There have been lots of smiles, laughter and wonderful opportunities for our tamariki to use their imaginations and express themselves through play. 💕✨

🩺 The Tūī Room medical team to the rescue! 🩺

The winter bugs certainly kept us on our toes over the past few months! But don’t worry the Tūī Room had a team of medical professionals on hand to help keep those pesky bugs under control. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

From doctors and nurses to the occasional sister and nurse practitioner, our tamariki have been busy checking reflexes, taking temperatures and administering the odd dose or two! 🌡️💉

It was touch and go for a while, but our Tūī Room medical team were on the case! 😄🩺

🐷🎭 The Three Little Pigs Show! 🎭🐷

After lots of preparation and hard mahi from our tamariki in the Kōtuku Room, it was finally time to put on the show they had been working towards!

With some special guests from the Tūī Room coming along to watch, our talented cast and crew put on two performances of The Three Little Pigs during the day. 🐷🏠

It was wonderful to see their confidence grow with each performance as they explored different roles on stage, developed their skills and understanding of the expressive arts, and worked together to create a fun, exciting and completely unique show.

And while we had our three little pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, our cast didn't stop there! We also had Mario, Rumi, princesses and even a hash brown making an appearance! 😂⭐

What fantastic stars we have here at Little Citizens! 🌟👏 A huge well done to everyone involved for sharing your creativity, courage and mahi with us. ❤️

We have been having lots of fun in the Kōtuku Room experimenting with finger painting. 🎨 Using paint to write and draw, our tamariki have been developing their individual self-expression, letter recognition, fine motor and early writing skills, while also exploring their senses and experimenting with colour. They have also been discovering how they can create prints of their mahi toi/art and writing by placing paper over their painted creations.

🐷🎭 Behind the scenes in Kōtuku! 🎭🐷

Over the past few weeks, the tamariki in Kōtuku have been busy preparing for their very own show, inspired by the story of The Three Little Pigs.

The tamariki worked together to shape the story, choose the roles they wanted to play both on and off stage, and create their own masks, props and sets. There was lots of creativity, discussion, problem-solving and, of course, plenty of excitement as show day got closer!

These photos capture some of the fun from their dress rehearsal, as the tamariki put all their hard work into practice before taking to the stage. 🌟

Being part of the show gave tamariki opportunities to step outside their comfort zones, take risks, share their strengths and contribute to something together as a group. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they worked towards this shared goal. ❤️

🎨 Exploring Colour Theory in Ruma Kōtuku!

This week, our tamariki continued exploring colour theory through the exciting process of hydro dipping.

They investigated how paint floats on water rather than mixing, while experimenting with swirling colours and seeing how their actions affected the final picture.

It was wonderful to hear tamariki making predictions about what their creations might look like, using words like swirling, floating and bright to describe their ideas. 🌈✨

A delicious celebration of Filipino Language Week in the Kiwi Room!

We were so lucky to have two of our Filipino families share some traditional foods with the tamariki for everyone to try. 💛

The children enjoyed Biko, a sweet sticky rice made with coconut milk and sugar, and Maja Blanca, a delicious traditional dessert made with corn, sugar, coconut milk and cornflour.

A huge thank you to our wonderful families for their generosity and for sharing a special part of Filipino culture with us. The children thoroughly enjoyed their sweet afternoon tea treat! 😊

📚 Storytelling fun in the Tūī Room! 💬✨

Oral language development is an important learning priority at Little Citizens, and our Tūī Room tamariki have been enjoying opportunities to build their language and storytelling skills.

Using felt characters, tamariki are creating their own stories and adventures! Kaiako first use the characters during mat time to tell stories, then encourage tamariki to use them to make up their own. 🧸🌳

We love seeing their imaginations and confidence grow as they bring their stories to life! 💚

Our Tūī Room tamariki had lots of fun wearing their ‘ei katu headbands and practising saying “Kia Orana!” when we celebrated Cook Islands Language Week💕

Through simple, hands-on experiences like this, tamariki can connect with the words they are learning while celebrating the languages and cultures of our wider world.

And those smiles say it all - they loved learning and having fun together! 😊🌺

📮 Posting fun in the Kiwi Room! 🟢🔴

Our Kiwi Room tamariki have been having lots of fun exploring posting - placing objects into containers and tubes and seeing what happens!

From pegs and lids to balls and tubes, they’ve been busy figuring out what fits where. Some objects are too big, some are too small, and some magically disappear… only to reappear when the lid is lifted or the tube is moved! 😄

This simple play is a great opportunity for tamariki to practise problem-solving, coordination and trial and error, while having lots of fun along the way. 💚✨
