St Hilda's Collegiate School

This week, St Hilda's hosted the annual Winter Quadrangular Sport Tournament. On Sunday, teams from St Margaret's College, Craighead Diocesan and Rangi Ruru Girls School, travelled down to compete in Netball, Hockey, Badminton and Football against St Hilda's and Columba. Starting with an opening chapel service, followed by games in the afternoon.

On Monday, there were many exciting games to be played. All teams played with determination, positive spirits and at a high level of ability. It was great for our netballers to have so many students visit the gym across the day to cheer on all the teams.

Tuesday - BRRRRRRRR

Unfortunately, with Tuesday's snow event and schools being closed, we had to cancel all remaining games.

While this was disappointing for everyone, our focus turned to ensuring our 3 sister schools could get home. Fortunately, the roads opened early afternoon and the 3 buses departed.

Results:

Given that 3/4 of quad games were completed it was decided that all remaining teams will be seen as a draw and each school awarded 2 points.

We were then able to award the following schools with code wins and the overall winning school.

Badminton:

2nd - Columba
3rd - St Margs
4th - Craighead
5th - St Hildas

Football:
1st - Columba
2nd - St Hildas
3rd - St Margs
4th Equal - Craighead and Rangi

Hockey:
1st - Rangi
2nd Equal - St Margs and Craighead
4th - St Hildas
5th - Columba

Netball:
1st - Columba
2nd equal- St Hildas & St Margs
4th - Rangi
5th - Craighead

Overall:
1st - Columba - 15 Points
2nd - Rangi - 13.5 Points
3rd - St Margs - 13 Points
4th - St Hilda's - 10.5 Points
5th - Craighead - 8 Points

What a night at Forsyth Barr Stadium! Last night, our 1st XV took out the 2026 OSSRC Dunedin Girls 1st XV rugby final with an incredible 53-22 victory over Columba College.

In front of a massive sea of powder blue in the stands, our girls played their absolute hearts out, displaying relentless grit, heart, and skill from start to finish.

Huge respect to Columba College - you were strong opponents and made it a fantastic match. Thank you for a great game!

A massive thank you to our outstanding coaches, James O'Brien, Charlie Harrex, and Lucy Holmes Crombie, for your incredible work all season. Special thanks also to our managers, Bee and John Bradfield, and of course, a huge shoutout to the legend Tee Boy Franklin!

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of one our dear and loved principals past, Pat Braddick.

Miss Braddick came to New Zealand from England in 1969 to take up a position as a Physical Education teacher at St Hilda’s, following a number of years teaching Physical Education in England, Canada and Venezuela.

After a few years, she extended her teaching beyond PE, to geography, English, social studies, health, and human biology.

She became Deputy Principal in 1972, a position which she loved, and performed with great flair, alongside the roles of guidance counsellor and careers adviser; stepping into the Acting Principal role as required.

In 1989, when Miss Graham resigned as Principal, the time was right for her to take the plunge and apply for the Principal role, to which the Board at the time was only too happy to appoint her – an appointment which resonated with the girls.

During her time at St Hilda’s Miss Braddick truly made her mark. Her tenure was characterised by significant building projects such as classroom redevelopments; the extension of the Tolcarne boarding hostel; the building of the chapel (prior to its recent development) and the gymnasium.

She was also instrumental in implementing some of the pastoral initiatives which make St Hilda’s so special, including peer support, and a guidance network, to ensure a supportive environment in which girls could learn, fostering emotional, academic and social growth – a focus which remains at the heart of the school today. She also oversaw the appointment of the school’s chaplain, Erice Fairbrother.

Curriculum change was also a large feature of her tenure, with the implementation of new “Tomorrow’s Schools” programme in 1989.

Pat – you will be greatly missed, and your profound impact on St Hilda’s will never be forgotten.

Dear Whanau,

Due to school closures, road conditions and the well being of our players, this morning's winter quad games have been cancelled.
Our focus now turns to getting our travelling schools home once roads open.

Thank you to all those that came out yesterday and supported our teams. It was a fantastic day.

Official results will come out in the coming days.

In coordination with all secondary schools a late start has been called for today due to weather and road conditions. This means that school will start at 10am. Students should go directly to their Period 2 classes.

This information will also be broadcast on Radio Dunedin 106.7FM, 95.4 FM, 1305AM and other Media Works stations and published on the school page as close as possible to 7am.

Should conditions in your area be different to those in the rest of the city please make individual decisions based on what is safest for your family.
