A few words and a project written by Jack, an electrical engineer working for Control Focus.
One of my favorite projects we've had the pleasure of working on was the Farra Compact Duo BMUs. We had the chance to build two of these incredible self-contained building maintenance units. Often referred to as the window-washing cranes, these machines make looking after your skyscraper a breeze. Equipped with 4-wheel drive and 4-wheel steer, we were able to design custom steering modes that allowed them to tackle even the most complex architecture.
But don't let the intuitive control scheme fool you, this beast is more complex than Schrödinger's cat at a quantum physics convention! Months of R&D went into creating a system that flawlessly coordinates 10 motors, 10 drives, 9 sensors, a PLC, a touchscreen, and a battery system, think of it as a mechanical ballet.

At the start of 2024, our dedicated team had the incredible opportunity to travel to Sydney and commission four Building Maintenance Units (BMUs) on top of the stunning new Darling Harbour skyscrapers. 🏙️
These BMUs are essential for removing the large cranes that helped construct the buildings. But their job doesn’t stop there – they’re a permanent feature, used for cleaning windows, replacing glass, and tackling any other maintenance needs high above the city.
Two of these BMUs are positioned atop a 90-story skyscraper! Can you imagine going over the edge in a small cage and slowly lowering yourself all the way to the ground? 😱🙌 Even more impressive, these machines run on tracks that resemble a wild rollercoaster, making the ride even more thrilling!

Just finished another refrigeration control project. This one was just North of Oamaru. A nice neat setup running EC fans based on humidity and temperature control.

The year is almost over, and I feel as if we should be sharing some more of our work. This is the School James and I went to as kids, and now we have installed 10 kw of solar over the roof, into a 3 phase inverter tied in with the grid.
