Our playcentre days are full of fun, connection and creativity. 🎨
We love watching our children tackle new obstacles, always with a smile. 😊
Riselaw Road Playcentre
Here at Riselaw Road Playcentre we are a community of whānau who enjoy learning alongside our tamariki. Open Tuesdays and Fridays 9:15am-1:15pm.
Welcome to our village!
Some of our parents at Riselaw Road Playcentre are currently completing their PIA (Playcentre Introductory Award). For one of their messy play tasks, they created a “volcano with lava flow” experience and shared how Dunedin is built on a dormant volcano. 🌋
The kids absolutely loved watching the “lava” and taking turns pouring it!
PIA (Playcentre Introductory Award) is the first step in Playcentre training and is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to learn more about child-led play, get involved in sessions, and build confidence creating fun learning experiences for children.

Tuesdays sunny session! ☀️
On Tuesday we were blessed with the sunshine & this called for outdoor play. We found some of our outdoor climbing equipment that we hadn’t played with for a while, the children were very engaged and loved practicing their climbing skills. 🪜 🧗

We will be integrating in our sessions this week, a great way to practice some sign that your tamariki can use in their communication.
is here!
As well as being our 85th Anniversary, this year also marks a significant milestone for NZSL: 20 years since NZSL was recognised as an official language of Aotearoa New Zealand!
New Zealand Sign Language Week is not just a celebration; it’s a moment for the Deaf community to stand tall, embracing their identity and heritage. It’s a time to showcase the richness of NZSL and the diverse culture it represents.
There are heaps of online resources to learn from, including the Let's Talk booklets where you and your whānau can learn basic signs for everyday sitations: https://nzsignlanguage.nz/resources/lets-talk-booklets/
Every sign counts!

One of our very favourite activities here at Riselaw Road Playcentre is painting. 🖼️
Painting gives the children multiple opportunities of brain development and learning, including colours, movement and textures. It’s also a great opportunity to get messy! 🎨🖌️

Orokonui Ecosanctuary 🌿
Today, we went on an excursion to the ecosanctuary with some other awesome centres from around Dunedin. We had a great time on our guided tour, we learned so much about some of New Zealand’s endangered species all of which we got to spot (except the sleepy tuatara). We spotted kākā, geckos, skinks, tūī, kōmako and the takahē. The takahē were very happy hanging around us and we even got to see them be fed.
Thank you to Orokonui for having us and teaching us so much wonderful information.
How amazing to have in our backyard, definitely go check it out if you haven’t been. 💚🦜🌳

Messy play week here at Playcentre, and today’s weather for Dunedin (28 degrees 🔥) provided the perfect opportunity for some extra messy play outside.
The children got right into the ooblec (literally) and it kept them busy through the entire session. what a fun day!
