We’re a small, family-focused centre built on aroha and community. Our kaiako foster curiosity, resilience, and confidence through rich, play-based learning.
We are a small family orientated centre offering a high quality curriculum and care to our children and their families. Celebrating 20 years 💛
Two of our amazing kaiako recently reached 20 years at Queens Preschool… but they’re not even our longest serving teachers!
Our team has been here for many years, creating a stable, familiar environment where tamariki feel safe, known and truly at home.
A home away from home, for children and teachers alike.
Happy Easter 🐣

Taking our learning into the community 🦋
We recently visited the Tūhura Otago Museum to extend our learning about the butterfly life cycle. The tamariki loved exploring the Tropical Forest and Science Centre, as well as their time in the classroom. This experience supported their growing understanding of life cycles, encouraged curiosity and exploration, built confidence in new environments and strengthened their connection to our wider community.
A wonderful day of curiosity and discovery 💚

Rainy day = storytime magic ☔📚
A cosy corner, little friends gathered close, and Scott bringing a beautiful story to life. These are the moments that make Queen’s Preschool feel like home 💛
Pilates for preschoolers? Absolutely! A huge thank you to Beth (Otis’s mum) from Fjord Personal Training for bringing such a fun and engaging movement session to our tamariki ❤️
As part of our Transition to School programme, we love visiting our local schools! These visits help tamariki feel comfortable and familiar with their new environment while strengthening our connections within the community - Thank you for having us St. Clair School!

It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Dame Pat Harrison, the visionary founder of Queen’s Preschool in 1978.
As the then Principal of Queen’s High School, Dame Pat saw the need to support teaching staff who were beginning their own families. Her innovative idea was ahead of its time, and created a preschool that not only cared for tamariki but also ensured stability and continuity of staffing for the school.
We are deeply grateful for her foresight and dedication, which laid the foundation for the strong, community-based preschool we are today.
This photo was taken in 2018 as we celebrated our 40th year, an occasion made all the more special by having Dame Pat join us.
Moe mai rā, Dame Pat. Your legacy lives on in every child, whānau, and kaiako who is part of Queens Preschool.
