Today is International Women’s Day and we are celebrating all women, in all their diversities. It is a day to recognise how far we’ve come towards gender equality, yet how far we have left to go.
Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to reach their goals. It can be even harder for wāhine Maōri, Pacific women and women from ethnic communities who face multiple biases. Knowing that bias exists is simply not enough to reach equality; actions are needed to .
Alex Chadwick, Acting Deputy Commissioner from the Te Kawa Mataaho Workforce, Employment & Equity team, says:
📢 “I will break the bias by leading change to the system, not to women.”
No one person is solely responsible – change to the system is evermoving. Breaking the bias can only be achieved through collective effort.

Calling all professional artists and creative practitioners in New Zealand – you're invited to register your interest in the Creatives in Schools programme in 2021!
Creatives in Schools gives you the opportunity to work with a school or kura to design a creative project for delivery over 8–20 weeks. Projects can include visual arts, dance, drama, and music, as well as filmmaking, game design, fashion design, spoken word, ngā toi Māori such as raranga and whakairo, Pacific arts including contemporary and heritage arts, and more.
Creatives will be paid for their time with students and ākonga.
