What a beautiful way to celebrate Samoan Language Week | Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa! 🇼🇸
Today, our Junior Kapa Haka had a very special treat. Two of our wonderful students, Monica and Glory, took to the stage to perform a stunning traditional Samoan dance for their peers.

It was absolutely heartwarming to see our cultures coming together, sharing traditions, and supporting one another. A massive well done to Monica and Glory for sharing your beautiful culture with us so proudly today. You both did an amazing job!

Fa'afetai tele lava (thank you very much)!

This morning, we gathered together for a very special assembly to bless two new korowai. ✨

These korowai are taonga (treasures) for our community, symbolising leadership, respect, and the shared mana of Te Kura Okaihae. They will be worn along with another korowai made by Margie Bell and presented to our kura in 2018. Having the opportunity to come together for this blessing was a wonderful way to honour our tikanga and our school value of Be Respectful, Kia Whakaute.

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Darvill-Jackson for organising this assembly. We look forward to seeing these korowai worn with immense pride in the years to come.

The Junior team had the best morning with our favourite singer, Kath Bee, who came to visit us right here at Green Island School! 🎶🎤

There was so much singing, dancing, and laughing. We especially loved joining in with our absolute favourite song, "Sprinkle a Little Sunshine"! ☀️💛 Thank you, Kath, for bringing so much energy and joy to our school!

📣 Parents & Whānau: Kath Bee has an upcoming concert with Rainbow Rosalind this Sunday!

What an amazing day the year 5-8 students have had today. We spent the day at the wetlands in Brighton where we tested the quality of the water, planted 130 native plants, wrote poetry and planted native seedlings. Thanks to our hosts Loveday and Chris and to NZ Forest and Bird society for sponsoring the bus.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that East Coast Passenger Services has come on board as a Platinum Sponsor for our school!

Thanks to their incredible generosity, we have been able to purchase a brand-new cover for our sandpit. This means our students will have a clean, dry, and safe place to play and explore for years to come.

A massive thank you to the team at East Coast Passenger Services for supporting our tamariki and investing in our school environment. We couldn’t do it without local legends like you! 🚛💨

Māori fry bread was on the menu at tech today. The children were confident learners with the entire process including cooking with the hot oil. It also tasted delicious

Green Island School is looking brilliant in pink today! We are so proud to stand together as a kura to celebrate Pink Shirt Day and take a stand against bullying.

A special shoutout to some of our incredible students who took the time to write and deliver 'Kindness Cards' to people today. It was a beautiful reminder that a small, simple act of kindness can make a massive difference in someone's day.

We are so proud of the Kia Atawhai (kindness) our tamariki show every single day!
