Another successful weekend of diving for our wee champ at the South Island competition; he came home with a gold and two silvers.

He will be going to Christchurch in the school holidays for Nationals, where he will represent DNI in the schools' nationals and then continue on to his age group nationals the following days.

Check out this superstar! A few months ago he spent some time street collecting for the Child Cancer Foundation, wanting to give something back after receiving lots of support a few years ago.
This month he's part of his family's team doing The Big Swim for Coastguard. He and his little brother signed up to swim 5km during the month, but are so motivated that they're halfway there already so will up their targets to 10km!!

Tomorrow, Friday 15 May, is Pink Shirt Day.

Pink Shirt Day is a movement focused on reducing bullying and fostering kindness. This is a conversation that remains vitally important for our young people, especially as they navigate the complexities of social media.

For DNI, tomorrow will be an ordinary school day. Students are expected to wear their standard school uniform, but they are encouraged to add a pink shirt to their uniform to show their support.

Note: There will be no collection of money for this event.

Action Over Fashion
We believe that wearing a pink shirt in isolation makes zero difference. To ensure the day has a real impact, our staff will be engaging with students throughout the day.

If a student is wearing pink, they will be asked to share specific actions they are taking to help reduce bullying. We discussed this in our assembly this morning, and the following suggestions were put forward:

Report hate speech or nasty comments on social media.

Avoid joining exclusionary or toxic group chats.

Call out peers when they make hurtful remarks.

Practice integrity: Do not say things online that you wouldn't say to someone’s face.

We encourage you to have a conversation with your child tonight about what "action" they plan to take tomorrow.

Nice one! Our wee stunner got a bronze medal at the Underwater Hockey South Island champs over the weekend.
His team played in C grade against some very tough competition!

We love hearing about our students' varied interests - this weekend we had one competing at the Australian Dance Crews Championships (ADCC) in Christchurch with his RASA Diamond crew.

During the Easter Weekend, the Dunedin Archery Club hosted a 4-day long tournament where archers took part in 'old' archery rounds which required archers to shoot at distances which ranged from 28m to 55m and to shoot a larger proportion of arrows than they would normally shoot, both within each round and the tournament as a whole. A total of 471 arrows were shot by each archer that took part in the whole competition and for context, the archers at the Olympics would only shoot 72 and the average arrows shot at tournaments is around 144.

One of our wee stars claimed the records in age classes which he does not even belong to, a feat most cannot claim through their archery career!!
In total, 16 records across the 5 rounds shot, of the 16 records only 5 are for his actual age class; the rest are age classes above his own. AMAZING
