Youth Digitech Studios Official page for the Dunedin Youth Digitech Studios We use tools such as Godot, Unity and Blender which students learn alongside trained professionals.

After school Youth Digitech Studios are aimed at all 10-15 year olds who are interested in games and technology. They will learn about types of games and how to make them and game assets (art) within a range of game types; from a side-scrolling 2D platformer and top-down action RPG, to a tower defence strategy game and interactive fiction. Each game type utilises the same range of skills, just with a different emphasis. If a student finds that they like a game style, it's easy for them to use the skills they have learned to design entire games of their own from scratch, or to simply keep expanding upon the games they've been building in class. The variety of game genres means that there's something for every student, and of course, previous experience with each game type will help build an even better game in the next genre. Students will learn both Unity and Blender, both of which are used by professional game developers, during the term and build a game that they have designed themselves. Students who have had personal experience with game design will fit in great too, as they can get assistance from the tutors to create more complex and interesting games on top of the games they might have already created - or the games they are interested in creating! The Dunedin Youth Digitech Studios are made possible with support from Community Communications Technology Trust (Com2Tech) and New Zealand Centre of Digital Excellence (CODE NZ).

For 8 - 12 year olds. 3:30 - 5pm. Tuesdays all Term 4. Free programme. A safe social environment, welcome to all. Students cooperatively work together to solve problems. Also through various game modifications these sessions offer an introduction to computing and programming.

For 10 - 13 year olds. 3:30 - 5pm. Thursdays all Term 4. A free 10 week programme. An all-rounder introduction to computing and IT. Covers units in General Programming, Game Development, Electronics and 3D Printing. An introduction to computer hardware is offered too.

Game Night Fundraiser update.

We are moving these nights to a smaller scope while we test out the viability of these nights going forward. We welcome any interest you my have and if you would like to attend please email [email protected] for more information and to confirm.

Our new location is 20a Parry St West and our first test night is this Friday, 29th May! 7 - 9pm.

We are triailing these with staff, volunteers and friends and family and will be free entry while we trial this out. ๐Ÿฅณ
