Congratulations to Year 8 student Htin B. for a stellar performance at the Dunedin Performing Arts Competition Society last weekend!

Competing in one of Ōtepoti’s oldest performing arts events, Htin took out 1st Place in the piano solo (own selection) and was named winner of the prestigious Pearl Dent Cup for the highest aggregate across two competitions! On top of that, his piano test piece and contemporary solo were both Very Highly Commended.

A fantastic achievement - we are so proud of you, Htin!

It was again a privilege to watch our rangatahi of Te Tira Haere o te Hāhi open the Thursday evening session of Polyfest 2026 last week! We can't begin to express how proud we are of these young men and women who have spent hours and hours of their time over the year preparing for this event.

~ Turning recycling into native trees! ~

Since 2010, our College and a group of Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award participants have been collecting paper and cardboard for recycling and logging our efforts with Paper4Trees. Our 2025 recycling has earned us 14 native trees, which a group of Year 7 & 8 students recently planted around the College.

Thank you to everyone who ventured out to the annual McGlashan Fete on Saturday! We were fortunate to enjoy a crisp, near-bluebird Dunedin spring day.

A special thank you to the PFA for their incredible organisation, to our sponsors for their support, and to our staff, boys, and the many volunteers who generously contribute their time and energy to making the event happen.

Last week our Jazz Band performed in the library, showcasing Will L’s composition, "Shift Work"! Will is pictured on the saxophone.

It was fantastic to hear the band bring this original piece to life. Well done to Will and all of our Jazz Band students for a great performance!

That’s a wrap on Rugby for 2026 - what a season it has been! This morning we capped off the season with Rugby Prizegiving in the Chapel.

This season we had...
- 162 players across 7 teams
- 22 coaches and managers

The boys gave it their absolute all, and achieved some exceptional results...
- 7 semi-finals
- 4 finals
- and we had 2 winners!

But there was plenty to celebrate beyond the scoreboard. The boys built confidence, developed skills, and forged friendships. We also had a large number of players nominated for U16, U17 and U18 Metro squads, with Highlanders nominations still to come.

A special thank you to Mr Campbell, and all of our coaches and managers for everything you have done to drive Rugby at McGlashan this season. It is a massive job, and your commitment, energy and leadership have made a real difference.
