We would like to give a huge thanks to everyone who made the annual Sports Fundraiser a success last Friday night.

Special thanks goes to to our school community that got behind sport at McGlashan, the staff who helped on the night, the incredible effort from the Sports Committee in organising the event, our inspiring speaker Matt Chisholm who captivated the audience, our senior boys who chipped in, and of course our sponsors.

Today in assembly, Dr Columbus shared his takeaways from a recent visit to Ark Globe Academy in London. They focus on the idea that the harder a student works at something, the better and more efficient they become at it, alongside high expectations, much the same as the learning culture we are strengthening here at John McGlashan.

We were proud to see some of our students representing Dunedin in the Junior Thunder Ice Hockey team in the recent school holidays!

The Dunedin round of the national tournaments saw teams from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and the Southern region visit to do battle. There were some hard-fought games, great goals and physical play across the two weeks. Well done to the following boys:

Under 18: Benjamin K, Reuben M, Alex R, Dino W
Under 16: Alex S, James B, Zach R
Under 14: Hudson G, Daniel K

John McGlashan staff member and New Zealand Over 50s Cricket team member Andrew H**e has broken a long-standing world record for the highest score in an Over-50s International match, blazing 158 as New Zealand piled on 329 and then restricted Scotland to 156/8.

H**e's epic innings, off 123 balls with 26 boundaries, surpassed the 151 that Australia's Peter Solway scored against Sri Lanka at the 2018 World Cup.

New Zealand's 329/7 was their highest team total as well. Scotland were 88/6 after debutant Jamie Graham's fiery opening spell but fought back well with a 68-run partnership for the 7th wicket.

Well done Mr H**e!
