Our story. Our faith. Our people. Now told in light.
Rector Jon McDowall shares the story behind the new stained glass windows in the Chapel of St Bede, generously gifted by old boy Chris Wilson and brought to life by stained glass artist Graham Stewart.
A lasting reflection of what it means to be a Bedean.

A brilliant result for our Hockey boys, who defeated STAC on Friday to claim the Canterbury Secondary Schools Premier Boys Hockey Shield! The Shield is contested on a challenge basis throughout the round-robin season, with the final winning team holding it over until next season. That means St Bede’s finish 2026 as the Shield holders!
Now it’s on to the semi-final this Friday, 14th August, against Timaru Boys’ High School, 6.35pm at Nga Puna Wai. All the best, boys... We’ll be cheering you on!

Some of our Year 10 boys have been putting their earthquake engineering skills to the test, building earthquake-proof structures from kebab sticks and marshmallows. A fun, hands-on follow-up to learning about plate tectonics and earthquakes in Social Studies this week.
There may also have been a bit of “quality control” on the marshmallows along the way... and judging by the amount of marshmallow flour on a few blazers and pants, the learning was definitely immersive!

Bedeans supporting Bedeans
A special moment during our Senior A basketball team’s final home game on Tuesday night. The boys honoured the team with a powerful haka... a fitting farewell and brilliant display of the community that makes St Bede’s so special.

Service Day is coming up!
On Monday 17 August, our students will head out into the community for a day of meaningful service, putting Fide et Opere, By Faith and By Works into action.
Whether they are helping a school, supporting a charity, lending a hand to a neighbour or volunteering in the community, it is a great opportunity for our young men to make a positive difference.
All current families should have been emailed further information and a link to complete the Service Day form.

That's a wrap! The first year of the SIBSN 1st XV Competition is over! We are incredibly proud of the effort and accomplishments from our boys, as well as all the others around the South Island. (photo by Suzanne Patrick)
Below is a message from the SIBSN to end the season.
It came down to the final minutes.
A fourth try late in the last match handed Christchurch Boys' High School the inaugural South Island Boys' Schools Network 1st XV title - a fitting finish to a season characterised by tight games and high-quality rugby.
11 schools. Nelson to Invercargill. 55 matches. And a Magic Round over King's Birthday weekend that brought boys, school leaders and whole communities together to celebrate boys' education.
Congratulations to CBHS on the win, and to Southland (2nd) and St Bede's (3rd) on the podium. Thank you to every player, coach and supporter who made the first season what it was.
And this is just the start. Beyond the rugby, our schools are already collaborating on wellbeing, leadership and learning - with more fixtures and shared events to come.
Here's to season two, and to a growing network of schools backing boys to thrive.
