On Friday afternoon we were visited by a travelling show that wowed, inspired and captivated our boys The Court Theatre
A musical and theatrical exploration of the gifts of Te Reo Māori, He Kura Kōrero follows three ‘collectors’ who, after gathering treasures from around the world, find their newest and greatest gift: Te Reo Māori.
The performance opened with our Kapa Haka group performing strongly for the young actors, welcoming them to our kura.
The actors then wheeled boxes into the stage, where famous NZ items had been archived.
This included Billy T James’s yellow towel to Willie Apiata’s NZSAS buret.
A search for NZ treasures had begun.
A highlight was seeing the Myth of Maui being acted out, the boys loved seeing how Maui tricked the Goddess of Fire, for the benefit of us humans, so we could can make fire ourselves by rubbing sticks together.
Weaved into the performance was a mysterious large egg that kept appearing from the archives and to the delight of all, it hatched into a moa.
