This Coeliac Awareness Week, we’re recognising the extra care that can come with everyday food choices for people with coeliac disease. From reading labels and checking ingredients, asking questions, and trusting that what they choose has been made with care.

Coeliac New Zealand estimates that coeliac disease affects around 100,000 New Zealanders, including around 30,000 children, with many people still undiagnosed.

At Bennetto, having our range Coeliac New Zealand certified is one small way we can help make chocolate a little easier to enjoy.

Today is World Day Against Child Labour.

This year’s campaign theme is “Red card to child labour: Fair play for children, decent work for adults”, which is a reminder that children should be protected from harmful work and supported to learn, grow and thrive.

For chocolate, this matters.

Chocolate begins with cocoa, and cocoa begins in agriculture. In farming communities, child labour risks can be connected to poverty, unsafe work, barriers to education, and pressure on families.

Child labour is not the same as a child helping with light, age-appropriate tasks at home. It refers to work that can harm a child’s safety, education, development or childhood.

At Bennetto, we believe chocolate should never come at the cost of a child’s safety, education or future. Our Child Labour & Pesticide Exposure Policy helps guide us in how we approach this responsibility across our cocoa supply chain, alongside our commitment to Fairtrade and organic certified sourcing, due diligence, audit review, monitoring and remediation.

No system is perfect, and this is not something that can be solved in a single post. But fairer incomes, access to education, transparency, monitoring and accountability all matter.

Today, we’re raising the red card to child labour, and continuing to support a fairer way forward.

SIMPLY THE BEST 🍫The annual 2026 Chocolate Scorecard has just been released, and Benetto Chocolate has placed in the highest tier (Green band) of the global chocolate industry! 🎉🌏

Benetto's Swiss manufacturer of 9 years, was also ranked the number one ethical chocolate manufacturer in the world!

The Chocolate Scorecard is the chocolate industry's independent annual sustainability assessment. It is coordinated by Be Slavery Free. Each year, it scores chocolate companies across seven categories: traceability and transparency, living income, child and forced labour, deforestation, agroforestry and climate, pesticides, and gender. Results are presented as a traffic light system. Green for industry leaders, yellow and orange for companies on the journey, red for companies a long way off, and grey for companies that refuse to be assessed at all. And there are Bad Egg awards, for companies declining to participate.
