Kia ora CRIMSOC members,

Applications are now open from herenga muka through our linktree in our bio. This is an exciting opportunity for two of our members to work closely with the Ara Poutama Aotearoa | Department of Corrections on a weekly basis.

A reminder of what Herenga Muka | Creating Connections is:

This is a student volunteer-run initiative for CRIMSOC members studying in Canterbury, which allows them to give back to the community through a variety of creative activities with the people in prison. It is an opportunity for students that is different from others. It is something fun and unique that provides both those in prison and students with the opportunity to learn new skills and grow as individuals. The goals of the project are to enhance mana, give students work experience, promote kind and compassionate connections and ultimately reduce recidivism by stimulating contact between members of the public and individuals in the care of Christchurch Men's prison.

Please note, to apply you must be:

20 years old

A member of CRIMSOC

A student at the University of Canterbury

It is also important to note Herenga Muka is largely the recruiter for students appropriate to volunteer at the Department of Corrections. This means those applying for the role will need to be confident, self-sufficient, and have experience working independently.
