The Electric Garden is an out-of-the-courier-bag solution for teachers to deliver digital technologies

12/06/2023

Kia ora e te whānau o Electric Garden,

Since the Electric Garden’s inception in 2018 and beginnings in 2019 the aim has been to bring the garden and technology together into the classroom to help support kaiakō and ākonga weave the Hangarau Matihiko/Digital Technologies curriculum into meaningful, hands-on digital technology lessons via their gardens.

Sadly, the Electric Garden will be coming to an end this winter and the EG web portal will be turned off on Friday 14 July 2023. We will open-source the code.

It was a difficult decision for the EG and Digital Future Aotearoa team, but due to diminishing numbers of schools subscribing to the service it has become financially unsustainable.

Over the course of the last year we have developed additional resources which weave digital technologies into the classroom via the environment. You can access these for free as part of our Digital Pīkau, which will continue to grow.

We would love it if you're able to return your EG unit so we can keep it out of landfill. Simply email Bronwyn (address below) to arrange for a courier at no cost to you.

We would like to thank all the users and supporters of the Electric Garden. Please contact me directly if you have any pātai.

Ngā mihi nui,
Bronwyn Scott

Happy International Women's Day!
This years theme is and here at RAD (& Digital Future Aotearoa) we are dedicated to the mission of improving equity for women in tech.

We gave Year 11, 12 and 13 students at Lincoln High School a task of developing solutions to shift the narrative and reduce the impact of digital inequity for primary school-aged girls in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Have a read of our blog for more about this and our take on embracing equity.

We have also proposed a challenge to YOU 🫵🏽
What can you do today to encourage others to pursue further learning in tech? Let us know!
