CAREERS AFTERNOON TODAY.
The boys from year 11 - 13 filled the hall this afternoon to hear all about future options. University's to Road Metals. Fulton Hogan through to The Army. HQ Dive to National Trade Academy and farming courses. Barbering to Sport. Our boys could ask the burning questions linked to subject choices and possible dreams of what their futures could look like.

Today we officially opened Aotearoa's first Te Whare Rama Pod.

We were joined by Hon. Matt Doocey, Minister for Mental Health, and Anna and Kent Gibbons, co-founders of Lighthouse Trust alongside their family, friends, supporters, students and staff of St Thomas’ to mark this incredible occasion.

We are so grateful for this amazing space and feel blessed to be part of the start of an incredible movement. As the pilot school for this we take on the responsibility bestowed to us with great honour and share the vision of creating calm spaces for young minds.

Yesterday, 4 of our senior students participated in The Court Theatre’s Theatresports in Schools Competition. We’re thrilled for the boys as they won their heat and are through to the semi-finals next weekend.

Something new is coming to St Thomas of College.
On Tuesday 8 September, we'll open Aotearoa's first Te Whare Rama Pod, a calm, nature-inspired space built into our grounds where students can pause, regulate their emotions and reset. It's not a therapy room, it's a sanctuary, with tools like cocoon seating, guided breathwork and a private reflection room to help our students find their calm.

The Te Whare Rama Pod was created by Lighthouse Trust, and St Thomas' is proud to be their pilot school, the very first Lighthouse School in Aotearoa.

This morning in assembly, student leader James Murphy shared his thoughts on Brotherhood and Legacy. We also acknowledged those who played in rugby finals at the weekend, those receiving values awards, and Josef Crocombe who was presented with his honours tie for representing Cook Island U19 football earlier in the year.

"When we hear the word brotherhood we might think about the people we sit with, train with, play sport with, or hang out with every day. But I think brotherhood is about more than that. At St Thomas’s it’s about encouraging the guy who is struggling. It’s about celebrating who we are and what we represent as a college. And sometimes, supporting our brothers isn't about being on sidelines of sport, watching their production, it can be about supporting them through time when things get tough and being by their side to support them. Because we never really know what someone else is dealing with. As a school, we have an opportunity to create an environment where people know they are supported. Where people aren't afraid to ask for help. Where we don't tear each other down just to make ourselves look better and as a school we should feel honoured that we have that very chance with the Te Whare Rama pods set to open in just a few weeks time.
We can all say the word, but it’s more about who is willing to put the words into actions and be an upstander in a group of bystanders. Every one of us when we walk down the drive one last time is leaving something behind. Not just trophies, results, or achievements, but a reputation. The way we treated people. The way we represented our school. The example we set for the younger students coming through. Legacy isn't about being remembered as the best player, the smartest student, or the most popular person. It's about being remembered as someone who made the people around them better.
Think about the students who came before us. They built the culture that we have today. They set the standards, created traditions, and represented our school before we ever walked through these gates. Now it's our turn. So my challenge to you boys is to be that guy that people want to remember."
