Our Peer to Peer Ministry students had a great time this week learning leadership skills, new games, and strengthening relationships with each other. These students will lead our Encounter Days later on in the year.
A special thank you to past students Brie Benns, Ella Malone, Charlotte Lyons, Liana Borkus as well as Father Alister who helped lead the day.

Our opening mass was a wonderful celebration to start the new school year and the commissioning of our 2025 student leaders. The message of HOPE (Have Only Positive Expectations) is one we will carry with us throughout another fantastic year at Marian College.

As the Coast to Coast gets underway, our rowing helpers have travelled to Klondyke corner. Tomorrow they will be setting up at the finish line at New Brighton and as the race finishes. A great way to give back to the community. Good luck to everyone competing including some of our past pupils.

Our Year 9 students had their first full day of classes today! Last week they had the opportunity to get to know each other and the school during our E tu Kahikatea days. A particular highlight for many was our newspaper fashion show.

Kia ora, I am Seyara De Silva, and I'm honoured to serve as the Head of Special Character for 2025 at Marian College.
My extensive effort in all aspects of school life is a testament to the unique connection that Special Character creates within our school.
I remember sitting in ALPHA 22, intrigued by the Year 13s’ deep faith discussions. I remember the emotional valedictory speeches, praising God. I remember the purest feelings of sisterhood that I felt in Year 9 (and continue to feel), as I witness the genuine faith of the senior girls. Their words, actions, and testimonies have inspired me to be the best Marian girl that I can be.
To now be one of these “senior girls”, in itself, is an unexplainable gift. I am blessed to follow in the footsteps of Catherine McAuley, Mary Mackillop, Jesus, Mary, and all of the mana wāhine who have inspired me with servant leadership.
Supported by my teachers and wonderful deputy, Jayde Liang, I will strive to be a leader who helps all the girls be proud of their faith, deepening their understanding of how faith enriches our lives and guides us in service. I am so excited to give back to our beautiful community and I promise to give my all in enhancing the culture of Marian as a faith-filled and loving home for every student.

Kia Ora,
My name is Victoria Russell, and I am the Deputy Head Student - Academic for 2025.
I feel truly blessed and thankful for this opportunity to lead the school alongside my peers and to give back and help the community that helped me. While being at Marian, I have tried to be involved within every part of the Marian whānau. Whether this be cultural, spiritual, athletic, academic, wellbeing, or community, I try to help when I can, and I hope to encourage others to as well.
Marian College has offered me so much and given me so many opportunities in every aspect, so for this year I will try help provide that to you and encourage you to make the most of your time and enjoy it.

Muli Bwanji,
My name is Luyando Mwandila and I am honoured to be Deputy Head Student - Pastoral for 2025.
I was born and raised in Aotearoa but I originate from Zambia. From the beginning of my time at Marian, I knew that I wanted to make the most out of my time at school. I joined groups such as Choir, Jazz band and Special Character, and in those groups I formed connections with other Marian students as well as developing my own personal character.
I partook in Peer Support, Peer to Peer Ministry and Wellbeing Connectors, and I strived to encourage and support my Marian whānau.
As Deputy Head Student - Pastoral, I intend to continue encouraging and supporting my Marian sisters, as well as help keep Marian a kāinga of love, support, respect and faith. I am so excited to work alongside the other head students and to give back to my community. 2025 here we come!

This year we have an incredible team of student leaders so as we count down to the first day of school, we'd like to introduce you to them.
Kia ora. My name is Molly Maynard and I am the Head Student for 2025.
During my time at Marian I have had so many leaders to look up to, and now I have that opportunity to be that leader for someone else - an opportunity I will always be grateful for.
I have always been involved at school and that is something I really encourage everyone to do in 2025. Whether it is participating in a sport or attending a new group, there is always a way to get involved. I am very much looking forward to working alongside my peers to create a fun and welcoming school for our ākonga, and I will strive to inspire and support the girls of Marian to also be a leader. I have gained so many good moments in my last four years at Marian, and now it is my turn to give back.
