Some kōrero is just better around a fire. 🔥

This week, our Pennylane team traded the meeting room for the firepit.

With s’mores in hand, we spent the evening sharing ideas, asking questions, challenging our thinking, + reflecting on what great teaching looks like.

There’s something about gathering around a fire that invites connection. It slows us down, creates space for honest kōrero, + reminds us that some of the richest learning happens through conversation.

At Pennylane, we believe professional learning is about more than gaining new knowledge. It’s about staying curious, learning from one another, + creating a culture where everyone feels safe to share ideas, challenge perspectives, + continue growing together.

🌿Sensory experiences help tamariki make sense of the world. Through touching, pouring, mixing, and exploring, tamariki strengthen fine motor skills, develop problem-solving abilities, and build early literacy + math foundations.
They’re also learning to focus, communicate, and experiment, all while having FUN 🌿

✨ We are so excited to share that the beautiful rebuild of Pennylane won at the 2025 Canterbury Architecture Awards in Education this week. Huge congrats to who created an incredible space for our people to come together each day.

It was such a heartbreaking time when we lost our original space, but this project is a real testament to what can happen when good people come together 💛 Pennylane is a celebration of community, resilience + creativity.

This space means the world to us – and to see it recognised like this… is pretty special.

Sharing it with our Pennylane community, because you’re such a big part of the story too 💛

✨ At Pennylane, wellbeing takes many shapes – and for our team, it’s the chance to come together, learn, and connect on a deeper level.

Recently, we’ve been engaging in some really rich kōrero through a series of workshops as part of our bicultural journey. These moments of shared learning help strengthen not only our understanding, but also our relationships with one another and the kaupapa we hold close.

A special shoutout to the amazing FUSH Waka for the beautiful kai that nourished our bodies as we nourished our hearts and minds - and to Anton , who delivered the most inspiring + thought-provoking workshops 🙌

Steph has been sprinkling her magic across our centre since day one.
She’s loyal, loving, and brings such a beautiful energy into everything she does.

And this year feels extra special, with her gorgeous girl Frankie now by her side 💕
