This short article was on One News tonight. It is super relevant for our Y13 class right now who are looking at the significance of plastic in our oceans. These plastics break down into microplastics over time and can enter the human body. Not much is known about it yet, so it's something that we should all be aware of!
'They're everywhere' - Microplastics found in human blood
Professor Sally Gaw from the University of Canterbury says, "we need to decide as a society, what do we want to use plastic for?”

Have you heard about the big rain event that will make landfall on the West Coast over the next couple of days? We will be watching it and seeing how the Waiho River in Franz Josef rises. Our Y13 course has studied this river for about 15 years and this years class could well find out this week just how fast this river reacts. Real life Geography in action is the best learning!

Thanks Lyttleton Port for hosting the Yr 13 students last week and for telling us about all the big projects that have been going on there including the breakdown of microplastics in the ocean. A special shout out to ex CGHS student Larissa Tucker (2017) who was interning there at the time, always good to see a familar face.
